Installed the Chromecast Audio today. Anyone else considering this option, hold off until I've done more testing. In order to stream music to it, you need to turn on WiFi hotspot/tethering on your phone. Although this works fine the app I use most, Napster seems to insist on streaming the tracks from the internet even when I have them downloaded for offline use, which defeats the point for me as I don't have unlimited data.

It is supposed to work so I will see if I can get it working as hoped. If you only want to play tracks you've transferred to your phone yourself, say from ripped CDs you should be fine as there are plenty of apps that will do that for you, but for those wanting to play offline tracks from Napster, Spotify, Deezer or Google Play may not get what they want. Learned to drive in 2011.

I can confirm that Chromecast Audio is not a good solution for wireless in car audio. It doesn't allow streaming of downloaded tracks from the likes of Napster, Spotify or Google Music unless it has an active internet connection (your phones data plan).other apps allow streaming of local content (stuff you've ripped and put on your phone) but it is still unreliable.

So, don't buy it. Learned to drive in 2011.

Well everything is working perfectly on the Neet/iPhone front, I'm really impressed with it.

The only drawback is that I can't find anywhere for this RCA Aux cable to go. I've got a 6CD (loaded from the front panel) system that's got one connector on the back that's larger than the cable I bought and a fibre optic connection.

I've yet to rwmove the head unit to try fitting the cable but I sold on the Chromecast and took a punt on one of those eBay Bluetooth ones posted above and I have to say. Works perfectly. Audio quality seems fine Smile Learned to drive in 2011.

OP - did you manage to fit that cable? I removed my stereo this morning and there isn't anywhere for it to go. Nothing for it to piggy back with either. Learned to drive in 2011.

Nope. For now I've run a jack down the inside of the centre console, out the back of the handbrake sleeve and into the AUX socket.

I'm also still trying to find where to power it from. At the moment I'm feeding it from a switched live in the fusebox but that means it's not live until I switch on the ignition and there's then a delay until the network is available. What I'd like to do is power it from something that gets enabled when I unlock the doors so that by the time I've sat down and got the phone into its holder the network is ready.

I'll try the manufacturer to see if they can offer any advice otherwise it'll be going back to Amazon.
