United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Baltic Blue
2007 hse instrument cluster upgrade

Hi everyone wanted to ask for some Advice in relation to my instrument cluster.
Been having problems since I bought my fl2 as an accident damaged vehicle catd with light frontal damage.
The problem I'm having is related to the instrument cluster dropping out momentarily when I hit a bump in the road. Usually it comes back on immediately but sometimes it will remain off, if I stop the car when the dash is off I can't lock it.
Sometimes when I try and open it with the keyfob it doesn't open either or start!
On doing some research through freel2 there are some members who have reported similar problems and seems to be related to the instrument cluster.
Sometimes if the dash drops and I continue driving a light tap on top of the cluster brings it back on so I'm thinking either a faulty cluster or a bad connection out with the cluster???
So your thoughts would be greatly appreciated as its ruining my confidence in my beloved freelander. I have found a new cluster online but it's for a slightly newer model (LR 024511). It looks the same except for the font on numbers is slightly different. Can anyone tell me if this particular cluster is programmable to my FL2.?
Thanks in advance for all your help,
Kind regards,
Robert

If it reacts to taps, then it's a bad connection.
You need to take it out and check both connectors (male - female) for signs of loose contact and/or oxidation and the cluster connector's soldering.
It's normal that you can't lock the car or unlock it, because part of the authorization process is passing through the cluster and as with any electrical devices, it works much better when it's powered up... Laughing

Thanks for your reply, so when you say check soldering do you mean to open the cluster or just around the multiplug? I'll maybe take it out tomorrow evening and have a good look at it. I can take a few pictures.
If nothing is obvious would u consider changing the cluster? Do you know if the newer clusters are compatible?

Yes, open the cluster and resolder the plug's pins, if necessary.
But I think that it's a bad contact inside the plug itself. Or maybe some oxidation.

I don't know if they are compatible. I would stick with the version the car has...
