In a dilemma about tyres. It's possible for me to buy some GGT AT 101H 235 55 19. Could you knowledgable people give me a possible yes or no if such a load rating is fine for the freelander or not and if you would run a tyre with a lower load index than the standard 105. 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

101 equates to a total load of 825 kg per tyre. Assuming equal weight distribution (which you're unlikely to achieve in practice) that gives a max all-up weight of 3,300 kg. With the H speed rating that means in principle that you can load around 1.5 tonnes into your car and drive it at 130mph whilst remaining within the rated limits of the tyres. So a 101 H on paper would be OK for the FL in normal use.

That said, fitting a lower than standard load rating might be an issue for some insurers, and it's always nice to have a bit of extra margin, particularly if towing. The 105s are rated at 925 kg per corner, whilst my GG ATs are 108s - 1,000 kg per corner. Which means that, in principle, I can load my car to an all up weight of 4 tonnes then blast down the autobahn at 130. Overkill? Probably!

won't the 108's have a stiffer sidewall and therefore a firmer ride?

My wifes Fl2 has 108 rated GGat's and it rides very well indeed. My Fl2 has Goodyear Wrangler allweather which does ride harder .

I'm just mega confused regarding tyres. The safe option to me is to get wranglers which are same load and speed rating but the issue I've got is a chap is selling 4 GG AT 101H which I'm considering, but I certainly don't want to compromise safety etc.
