United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Caspian Blue
CD player Disc Error

My CD player has recently developed a fault with playing CDs - it won't.
It's a 2007 GS with the basic dash slot loader and I noticed it no longer makes the slight "click" or even "tick" it used to make when loading discs. It thinks for 10 to 15 seconds then says "disc error". I can then eject the disc ok.

Any thoughts ? My Indie shrugged his shoulders and says it would need to go to his specialist. How easy are they to get out of the dash ?

Thanks in advance. FL2 2007 57 GS

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

CD and DVD players in general are notorious for the laser going soft after a few years and failing to read the TOC - table of contents file - which is the inside track (CD players play from the inside not outside like vinyl). They are rarely repairable at an economic price. This is the main reason that many hi fi systems are replaced. On some designs it was possible to crank the laser drive current up a bit but if it did work it generally wasn't for long. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
