Hello All
despite my best efforts had to remove alt from the car, the loud clicking noise was indeed from the alt pulley it did seem to be working correctly however it was not. The hard part of this was trying to start the car after fuel filter was refitted, just could not get the air out filled the filter etc etc, in the end got the other ( better half ) to blow into the tank vis an adaptor I made fuel came out with the ai,r connected the pipe back onto the engine fuel pump. A few pumps of " Start YA Bastard " Yes that is the name of it! and away it went.
Thanks all how looked at my post.

JEF Very Happy
