Ciggy lighter

I have bought a dash cam and hard wire kit with power saver (see picture).

Am i right in thinking i can just wire this straight to the back of the ciggy lighter and it will work fine? As i dont want to mess about with a piggyback fuse if i can help it

Surely it's much easier to get at the fuse box than to access the back of the "ciggy lighter"? I would just wire it in to the appropriate fuse position in the box under the glove box. Use a mini piggy back fuse. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

It might be easier to wire it to the fisebox with a piggyback fuse but i wanted to use the ciggy lighter feed as it only has power when the ignition is on so no chance of it draining the battery...am i right in thinking that?

Depends on what model FL2 you have

There are some comments regarding wiring into the fuse box under the glove box here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic12741.htm...p;start=30

I used a piggyback fuse in position F10 to wire in a Garmin SatNav and phone charging lead.

It might be an idea to place that in your forum profile Thumbs Up

If you are not wanting to use piggyback fuses, then might as well run the wire past the fuse box and cut in to the wire near ciggy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

As still lost in france writes, full instructions regarding which fuse to use etc are in the link he gives. Just choose a fuse that is ignition switched. For the satnav, most people take a feed from the fuse box to a cigar lighter socket in the glovebox. You can then connect and disconnect any device easily via that socket. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Sorry to the OP! Can someone tell me if the cig. socket in the boot (MY 2013) switch off when car is turned off? Just bought an ice box that powered via a 12V cig. socket and not sure if I should leave it connected permanently in case it drains the battery.

I have just fitted a dashcam and ran the cable into the glove box and fitted a CIG lighter socket into the glove box from a piggy back fuse. It was very simple - much easier than cutting and joining cables.

Use fuse location F5 - that is ignition switched. Learned to drive in 2011.

Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
