your wrong cqr its not just seeing down the sides, you have see a wider view.can't remember the exact figure what it is but if you get pulled for not having them it's 3 points per mirror and up to £1000 fine so I wouldn't even think about driving with out them. The law changed in 2010.


practically speaking, both cqr AND hinchy are right. If you can see down both sides of your 'van to the rear corners: 1- you must already be using extended mirrors and therefore 2- the mirrors will give a field of view to include the 4 metre width from your van side and some 20 metres behind the driver.

NB: I use convex mirrors both sides on my FL2 (they are Milenco Grand Aeros) - IMO (as an experienced LGV driver) the flat versions give a field of view that can be too narrow. Remember though, that convex mirrors can distort the distance - objects can be closer than they look - so practice and get used to them.
