Have you done what the dealer suggested?

Remove both leads from your battery, hold both leads together and leave them like that for 5 mins, this will drain any Capasators in the numerous ecu's and upon reconnecting to the cars battery they reboot

No, I haven't done that yet as the car is at the garage.
Someone on another forum reckons that holding both leads together could cause a spike from the charged capacitors in the system???

Speaking as someone who has made a lot of electronic equipment I would say that shorting the terminals is very unlikely to cause a spike as the capacitors won't hold that much charge. However, if you want to be doubly sure just short the terminals through a 1k ohm resistor so that it's a slow discharge and leave it for say 5 mins. You can even monitor the voltage drop with a meter (preferably an old analogue one so that you can see what is happening). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The hard reset is standard LR practice, DIY and save yourself some money if it works

If not don't bother ringing the LR dealership for advice, if your going to ignore it Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Safe method is to charge battery for a little while at 1000 -1200 revs, back to tickover, switch off, disconnect jump leads and then try to start vehicle with flat battery. Better spend 1/2 hour charging battery than damaging complex electronics.
The damage often happens when driver of car with flat battery revs it when it starts. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

i couldnt agree more! I would never use a LR to jump start another car. If you use a LR with Stop Start the battery voltage is different and charge rate, the car you jump start wont know that !
The manuals do state somewhere in them do not jump start!
I always use a Ni-cad pack for jumping. Thumbs Up
I have seen many cars damaged by jump starting other cars in my 40 years in the trade Jaguar x-type sport gone
Jaguar x-type 2.2d sport one of my best cars ever sadly gone
Freelander 2 GS auto 2008 most unreliable ever ! gladly gone

Update

Hard reset done.
Fault located to turbo, could be the ECU that controls it or possibly sticky variable vanes.
Will keep this thread updated as things progress.
Cheers

Jump Starting another car

If there is a desparate need to jump start another car and you are the only one around to do it, then to be absolutely safe, turn your engine off and disconnect the positive lead from your own LR so it is only the battery that is in the jump start circuit. The effort to reconnect the positive lead and reset the electric windows and clock are trivial and worth doing to avoid any bad spikes coming back into your car

That's strange I had a turbo actuator fitted last year when I bought the car.
Try Central Turbos in Derby who did mine. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

Does it have an electronic actuator?
Seemingly, they changed it to the type that I have in late 2010.
The turbo is water cooled.

Bigduke, as your car was damaged by accident you can probably claim the lot off your insurance. Check the policy first though before you inform them.
