Have I got an engine problem?

Hello, first post, be gental😀 got my first landrover just over a week ago, Fl2 XS 2007. Absolutely love it...............but, a couple of days ago I was in a residential area doing 30mph in third gear for a while and the car sort of stalled or coughed, I changed down and the engine seemed to die for a few seconds, down to first gear it coughed again picked up speed ok and was OK all day after that. (Half a tank of fuel) .
Tonight I was on the dual carriage and as I was driving at 70mph in fith gear it stalled or coughed again. But has again be fine on the rest of the thirty mile journey I have just been on.
Iam off on a 400+Mile trip the weekend and am a bit concerned I might have a problem with the car.
Please help, I want to love my landrover but need a reliable car.
Thanks in advance, Carl.

My money would be on one 3 things.

1) last service fuel filter was forgotten about and is clogged causing moments of fuel not getting through.

2) water in airbox, getting sucked up causing bog down.

3) intermitant throttle body issue.

Hopefully you have a warranty thatll sort it. If not get yourself to a reliable local independent land rover specialist. Good luck.

I would go for the fuel filter first, I have had two that had starting and hesitation problems and a new fuel filter seemed to fix things. They are supposed to be replaced every other service but worth getting done every time. From what I read it's not to difficult to do yourself. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Wouldnt jump to crankshaft sensor, in my experience with them (and sadly i have had a few fail on a couple of previous cars) they tend to work or not. Never had an intermitant one yet. (Touch wood)

Well... on FL2 you'll find ones (crankshaft sensors) that work based on their moods... Laughing

Thanks for the quick replies.
Water in the air box sounds favourite at the moment, had the car washed twice down the local car wash and they use a powerful jet washer. Also I cleaned the engine with gunk and used my little jet washer to clean it off.
I will look in the air box tomorrow.
It was a private sale so no warranty. I don't think the guy I bought it off has had a proper service done for a couple of years so I dought the fuel filter has been changed for a while. I will look in to replacing it.
Hope it's not a throttle body issue.......that sounds expensive!
It's done just over 88000 miles.

Throttle body costs about £100 and isn't too difficult. Lots of advice on the forum on replacing it, do a search or for a start have a look at this http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic17375.html 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Well, no water in the air box, but a very dirty air filter. Oil is very black and was low. Topped up now.
Time to book in for a full service I think, just hope it keeps going over the weekend.
Drove it for a while today with no stalling or anything so fingers crossed will be ok for now.

Could something as simple as a very dirty air filter been the problem?
Engine stalled and coughed a couple of times Thursday and Friday, on Friday I had been driving about twenty mins, poodling along in fourth gear and the engine cut so sundenly I was jolted forwarded in my seat. Lasted one second.
Changed the ( extremely dirty) air filtter first thing Saturday morning, have done 280 miles since then and the car has not stalled once.
Been a joy to drive on the moterway, cruse control is one of best inventions ever!
Getting the car serviced next week so will have a new fuel filtter changed too and hopefully have a reliable car.

My money is also on the fuel filter, sounds like the car is in the need for some TLC Thumbs Up
