So my experience of 75% with problems ie 3 out of 4 is just bad luck then? Perhaps I should just be praising the one that was OK? Very Happy 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Greece
Hello there everybody!

Thought I'd post a message to introduce myself.

My name's Nick, half English, half Greek and divide my time between Athens and London (with a bit of Hampshire thrown in).

After reading posts here (and saving the £££), I'm now on the market for an LHD 2012 model. Luckily S.W.M.B.O. has a keen interest too, although she insists on beige interior - which is a hindrance because I'm finding it hard to find one in... Europe! I did fly over to Belgium last week, although the example in Antwerp turned out to be a lemon. Was the dealer's courtesy car and counter showed 20k more on the clock than advertised. So I'm still looking.

Intended use would be primarily for heavy weekend trips and for some light off-roading outside Athens to entertain my 2 sons who're 6 & 7. The eldest wants it for his birthday...

Decided on a Freely, simply because a Disco's just too big for winding country/island roads here. Likewise, decided against a Subaru Forrester, or anything else for that matter because only the Freely has the cachet... the off- well, I'm preaching to the perverted here.

I thought I'd avoid the all-too-common 'Need advice buying thanks bye' kind of post as there's so much info here already. However, might need to post something in the Europe section, if I get stuck trying to locate a decent dealer.

It's fantastic to see an active forum with so many members imparting info and sharing their experiences - puts bookFace to shame. I hope to contribute as time goes by and look forward to discussing things here.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi All,

Decided that I would join up out of interest and to see what this site has to offer! I currently run a Freelander Metropolis after trading my older Freelander 2 HSE.

Thanks dunkley201!

Bought my first Freelander 2 HSE in early 2013. It was a TD4 automatic in Santorini black. Very pleased with it and had no reliability issues. Current car is the Metropolis in Orkney grey which I got about a Month ago.
Fairly new to Land Rover really, having previously own a selection of Saabs for many years!

Hi Opus1, Saabs, ay? I've got an NG 900 'vert 1996 for the last 10 years, but that's for another forum...

I wonder if there are any other Saab refugees?

Hi nick the greek,

Yes, there are bound to be some Saab refugees out there. But as you said, that would be best left to a different forum!
Enjoyed driving/ owning my first Freelander which in turn persuaded me to get my current model! I hope that this will be as reliable as the older one was...

Just converted to F2

Hi all,
This is my first post and my first FL2. Its a 2011 facelift TD4 XS manual in black.
Have switched from 20 years of owning Range Rovers as I didn't have a deep enough pocket for my last one, a P38 Westminster.
So far, have covered almost a 1000 miles and I'm very impressed. Very Happy
It had to have a new rear diff bearing before I purchased it, but the main stealer did that as part of the deal, but I'm told that this has been a fairly common fault Question
Just a quick question, if I fitted mud flaps, would they be effective?
Looking forward to sharing with you all.

Hi there!

Seriously thinking of buying a Freelander - thought I'd join up and say hello! I am currently driving a 2012 ford Mondeo estate (company car), but am moving job so need to get my own wheels. Wife, two young kids and crazy springer spaniel to fit in so was looking at some sort of SUV, after reading what seems like thousands of reviews I believe what I am looking for is a Freelander. My only 'nagging feeling' is the rumours of poor reliability that although were mostly aimed at the Freelander 1, that I can't seem to shake..............

help/pointers/suggestions/pearls of wisdom/facts most graciously accepted

Cheers

Andy

I too have a similar 'family' to fit in (including the crazy springer) Razz

They are really good cars IMO and for me tick all the boxes - commuter car, weekend car, family car, all weather car, tip run car etc etc etc. with out being a people carrier or estate car

Yes some do have their problems, I ran 2 x FL1 TD4 Autos with only the first one causing me minor headaches.
The FL2 is a different animal, but still with some problems potentially.

Same as for any car purchase - look around there are plenty out there, drive a few and choose the best one for your needs and get a good warranty if possible. I didnt with mine and (fingers crossed) ive not had any issues in 15000miles.

Happy hunting and welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

Trying to fix the parking sensors...........busily reading all the past threads..........there must be a way of bench testing them.
