I would take the DS over the Evoque, I found my Evoque crashed over potholes whereas the DS soaks them up a bit better. The DS is on the firm side but not unpleasant, the Fl2 is the softest of the 3, a bit more wallow than the other two but it does have the traditional LR shape and higher centre of gravity but handles far better than my D4 I just sold.

It's a tough one between the Fl2 and DS both soak up the bumps pretty well, I find the DS more comfortable to drive, you sit a lot more into it rather than on it. It's really tough because the Fl2 is a fantastic car and not an uncomfortable place to be, the two are just so different.

My order of preference, in terms of comfort

1) Disco Sport
2) Fl2
3) Evoque 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

J77,
Well said. Could not agree more.
Intend to keep my 13my with 18k till 3 years 5 months old. Bought as LR approved used with 2 years LR warranty from date of purchase so 5 months to run after 3 year manufacturers expires. LR have confirmed this is the case.
By that time i'll have had my bus pass for 15 years so may downsize. A lot of smaller SUV types coming on market.
Honda HRV, Fiat 500X, Mini Countryman, all to have decent auto versions, essential for me. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

The Ford 2.0 litre ecoboost in the Freelander is very nice. Ford have put it in the Kuga. This maybe worth a look at. The Kuga just needs a bit more ground clearance. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I really value 4x4 and, working in the UK auto industry, I want my next car to be British-built. Choices are therefore limited and DS looks a very good option. What else is an alternative? Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0

Any clues on the new Suzuki Vitara being trailed on TV blipverts ? Wifes 3 door 08 Vitara is a good sturdy workhorse, if a bit basic & dear to run. FL2 Ex D2, D3, RRS, etc. now all gone.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

If I were in the position where I was buying a newer car I would plump for a newer FL2, if it ticks all the boxes and you love the car, which we all seem to do on here, why not buy a nearly new FL2? I have never really understood buying brand new cars as they depreciate so much, but price always factors into the equation higher than age for me. There are some mint cars out there if you are prepared to take a while looking, which would probably take less time than trying to work out which other make/model to go for! This would also keep residual values high due to increase in demand. Just my opinion given as I know some of us have fairly early FL2s.

Exactly what I did. Replacing my 2011 MY TD4 GS with a 2014 SD4 XS - auto box this time but with Almond interior. Just 2000 miles. And Santorini black again. Driving down to Hull to pick it up tomorrow evening.

I looked at a number of alternatives - Evoque (too expensive), DS (tried to like it but couldn't), CR-V (what was I thinking!!!) - but am really pleased with my final choice. The FL2 just fits my lifestyle perfectly. The map is not the territory

2011 TD4 GS Manual - Gone
2014 SD4 XS Auto - Gone

CR-V soon to be built overseas as Honda switch Swindon to Civic only. Which leaves Qashqai if you want British-only non-LR 4x4 Now:

I think you'll be pleased with the SD4. The extra performance is a big plus, and no loss of fuel economy as far as I can judge. Thumbs Up Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Had a chance to look at the new Vitara yesterday. Much smaller than the impression I got from the TV ads running at present. And not much room inside. The map is not the territory
