TSA - Trailer Stability Assist

What does TSA actually do ?
How does it work?
I have a 2014 Se Tech and installed OEM towing electrics myself. Is this why I have to pay £80 to have my FL2 coded even though all my trailer lights work including the green trailer indicator on the dash ? Or does TSA work without the coding. Cos if the £80 spent on coding only stops the parking sensors from buzzing when reversing I'll keep my £80 instead.

For that matter it would be really nice if there was a detailed explanation somewhere describing how the following work and what they actually do: DSC, ETC, GRC, CBC, RSC, EBA, TSA . Anybody ?

I have an idea what most of these electronic gizmos might do but TSA Im not sure about. How does it differentiate between an empty unbraked trailer or a fully loaded caravan. Or is that irrelevant , depending only upon something like yaw etc affecting the FL2 itself? All said and done it can only alter engine management and actuate individual brakes when necessary. Jules

Best advice is book yourself onto a LR Experience Course where it will all be explained to you. If you bought the Freelander new then you should have received an invitation to a complimentary half day experience.

sorry cocked this reply up - clicked on wrong quote

Been on 2 of these at Eastnor in the past (when I had a Disco TD5 ) and done some trialling in my Defender. Its the technical aspect I was interested in- I was hoping there would be an explanation somewhere on line. Jules

Yes - my error - Ive looked again at the pictures in the fitting instructions - there is no picture of a laptop or open book at the end of the pictures unlike the fitting instructions for the 2012 FL2 where there was. (there is a load of unnecessary bumper removal though which I guess is related to the OEM tow bar which requires the bumper off - Ive used a Witter towbar which fits without the bumper needing to be removed.)

Great - Plug n play hit JLR at last Smile

Thanks for the help Jules

2014 models don't need to be plugged into the computer to be set up. If all lights work along with the trailer indicator then your vehicle is ok.

This short video explains what TSA does

Is this what I get if I pay for software upgrade on a MY10 HSE Auto.

Had towbar fitted by Witter with dedicated Electrics an all lights plus indicator tell-tale on dash work OK. Parking sensors are not disabled though. Could live with this, but if other more important capabilities enabled, would spend money on software update. Andy

Pretty sure TSA does not need activating, it is active all the time, sure I've read it in a brochure. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

According to the link on page 5 below it was planned to be added in late 2008 to FL2.

I would also like to know how to activate? Does it just work with non oem wiring?, do I need oem wiring to activate or do I need oem wiring + software update?

I believe the LR TSA system does not need to know whether a trailer is attached or not, it is the yaw systems on the car that will detect any unusual event and correct it via selective braking.
Other systems, such as the VW system need dedicated wiring to tell the car it has a trailer or their system will not work, bypass type wiring will not let the system know and therefore the system will not work.

As for activation, I have never heard of it needing activation and would think it is a standard feature of the overall DSC system, possibly from a certain chassis number?
