Can ELM327 code reader access transmission codes

I have an ELM327 based Bluetooth code reader (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-version/dp/B00426Z7S8) and can use it to access engine information etc. using the free version of the Torque app. on an Android tablet.

But I don't seem to be able to read anything back from the transmission when I get the all too common "Transmission Fault Traction Reduced" error, even if I pull the codes with the fault showing on the dash.

Is this a limitation of the my adapter or the software or the car? Can anyone recommend any software that I could use to retrieve the fault codes from the Haldex to find out what it's upset about now?

It's an 07 plate car, if that makes any difference.

thanks
Andy

the torque app only reads obd2 diagnostics which is engine only data,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it would also appear to require a Windows PC which I don't have so that kind of rules it out...

Which specific feature of this means that it can talk to the transmission? I'm guessing that one of these listed features is what's required to communicate with the Haldex - or is it just a function of software?

My adapter only claims support for:

The cheap eobd readers only read generic engine fault codes form the engine ecu as back in the mid nineties the european parliament passed a law for all manufacturers to use a standard 16pin diagnostic plug and a basic software to read it,
unfortunately the law didn't cover transmission or abs systems so you need a more dedicated diagnostic tool that can talk to the manufacturers ecu's and decipher the info coming back which is why you need a more powerful diagnostic tool,
your local garage should have diagnostics that will read the faults for £20-£30.

Have you checked the fluid in the Haldex? It was about half of what it should be on my 2007 and dark in colour. Just a thought.

I've not done any checking under there yet, the wife only just made me aware of it earlier this week. It would be nice to be armed with the fault code before it's in for a routine service next week.

Has anyone on here posted the instructions for changing or topping up the oil? Or even replacing the bits that the stealers will charge me several arms and legs for? (sensor, pump, Haldex, diff...)

This is to be updated at the weekend, once I have fitted the new TV to the wall, but some info on there about the Haldex you may find useful: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic21722.htm...lucky+girl

Hi RichP,

Thanks for that info, I look forwards to reading your updates!

Do you have a shopping list of part numbers (incl. washers etc.) for replacing the Haldex filter?

thanks
Andy

So the dealer pulled the codes and found P188914 which apparently means new oil and pump and very little change from £900...

Anyone know the part numbers (LR or Volvo or even it would appear VAG group) for the pump and oil? Is it worth doing the filter at the same time?

Is replacing the pump actually necessary?

The car is an 07 plate which I believe ,means it is a gen 3 Haldex.

Thanks
Andy

Hi, sorry had not seen your question. I use this site, it has an English version and you can see any part you like. Did you mean haldex pump? Let me know if you have any problems finding part numbers. http://lrparts.net.ru

Just thought that I'd follow up on this.

When the dealer pulled the codes they checked the connections to the Haldex and said that there were no electrical issues and that the problem required the Haldex oil and pump replacement.

We've not had a single recurrence of the problem since (~10 weeks)...
