Hello All, just new to the forum, I have a Freelander 2s 2008 and have a whistling noise inside the cabin when going 50+ mph. It's not mechanical, just air coming in somewhere, sure it's from somewhere in the dash area, I have taped up all the vents to eliminate them but the noise is still present, it doesn't increase or decrease with AC fan speed, but does with speed of the car, it's very annoying If anyone else here has had the same issue or has some ideas I would love any advise you may have. Do have roof rails? I get a bit of a wind noise at higher speeds and I'm pretty sure it's the roofrails Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Hi Purplemadboy, I don't have roof rails fitted, have just bought some but have not fitted them yet! I've listened carefully with each window open and each door open a little and the noise doesn't change, doesn't sound like it's coming from outside. Sounds like it's inside the dash but I can't 'feel' any air coming in, the 'tone' changes slightly with road direction or wind direction! thanks, Martin.

Once had a vehicle that did the same, couldn't find the source till I had a piece of paper on the dash, notice when I went over 30mph it would start to lift, at 45 it would lift and float to the floor, was found that there was an area with no sealant at the bottom of the windscreen. Worth checking.

I don't knoe how practical this is but I watched wheeler dealers ages ago and what the guy did on that show to see if there was a "draught" in the car was to put some kind of smoke bomb in the car to pin point the "draughts " where abouts. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

+1 for the windscreen. I also had a problem with a replacement screen that whistled and had to be refitted

My windscreen has the 'Land Rover' markings on it, so I'm thinking it's the original, is that correct? thanks...

Yes Marty, the sealant used in the bonding of the screen, usually along the bottom seems to be the area where the problem can be.

Seems like a genuine one, but may not be the original one.

I'll check it, I was reading elsewhere that I can tape it up on the outside with masking tape to see if it's the problem...

I've had one windscreen (flying stone chip) and one rear screen (Easter egg robbery!) replaced on my FL2, both by Autoglass, and both were LR replacements. No problems on mine though.  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Found (by accident!) the solution to my problem; there are two small threaded holes on the roof of the car near the front, used for attaching roof rails, these would normally have plastic caps/bungs in them, these were missing and causing the hole to act like a whistle as the air passed over it. I fitted new roof rails at the weekend utilizing these holes and so the 'whistling' noise in the car has completely gone ))) it was driving me mad!!

yes, I've heard that, irony is I was going to hold off fitting the new roof rails until I solved the 'whistle'....might never have found the problem
