pirelli M+S are they ok to use all year...?

I have these on my freelancer 2 and wondered if people keep them on all year and are they really any better in the winter?

Thanks Matt Black FL2

M+S tyres are all year round tyres. Only tyres with a Snowflake Mountain symbol are Winter tyres.

Some all season tyres have the snowflake symbol not just winters.

Thats a confusing statement. Tyres that carry the Snowflake symbol have to meet specific performance levels. M+S don't. What dictates a tyre is an all season tyre?

The snowflake symbol is a winter tyre standard but if other non winter tyres meet the standard they can carry the snowflake symbol. An example is the goodyear vector 4 seasons which has the symbol, (i am on my third set as they suit all conditions). As far as i know the m and s just denotes a type of tread pattern/side sips which help a bit in loose surface conditions but are generally useless in ice/snow.

I Dont know what dictates an all season tyre as the seasons are different dependent on where you live. (Many variables).

If a 'non-winter tyre' meets a winter tyre standard then it can carry the snowflake symbol.....which designates it as a winter tyre.

Confused

To me thats a Winter tyre thats being driven on all year round.

Goodyear says this about its vector 4 seasons.
'The tyre is certified with the snowflake symbol, which means it meets the official standards of dedicated winter tyres.'

Yes it is confusing.

Sounds like some marketing bod at Goodyear has said "lets call our winter tyre an all year round winter tyre". I would imagine it outperforms non-winter tyres below 7 degrees and is outperformed by non-winter tyres above 11 degrees....just like all other manufacturers winter tyres. Sounds like marketing BS to me.

It's more likely the silica content and tread pattern. More silica than a summer tyre and less than a winter.

But marketing bs aside, the 4seasons do work all year round. and you can legally use them abroad in snowflake symbol territory and then drive to Cornwall in the 'blistering' sun.

This tyre shows a snowflake, it is not a true winter tyre

This is the correct symbol for a true winter tyre
