Decant into a plastic Clare container and by tipping out the old stuff you will see it become clear quite quickly

I changed out the old fluid, turned on the car and a few lefts and rights to fill the pas pump with new fluid then repeated the process to ensure I got it all out. Most will say that was overkill but I always over services cars
Crystal clear green now, and the reservoir was definitely full of crud

I did try cleaning the filter with petrol and a fine toothbrush which worked well but decided a new filter unit was worth it due to the upgraded filter mesh - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Good man!
Honest, it's not difficult. I've watched the video and it's very good. I actually used good old sellotape to block the pipe at the bottom of the reservoir.
Cheapo suction pump is a must, it'll make a right mess otherwise.
Stick with L/R green power steering fluid LR003401, about 8 quid per litre. 2 litres is more than adequate.
While your little helper turns the wheel, keep topping up the reservoir, don't let it get low otherwise you'll draw in air.

You'll should be very pleased with yourself once it's done. Takes less than an hour if you've not done it before
Good luck chuckabillaway!

Sorry, when I said I hadn't even changed a bulb, it wasn't because I wasn't willing, I've just never had a car that has required any work to be done to it. I want to learn how to look after my FL2 so this is a great starting point.

Will order stuff off sponsor and organise time with neighbour. I would film it if I didn't think he'd rip me senseless Smile He's a bit old skool.

Its financially driven as well - my wife and I plan on keeping our vehicles long term so the more I can do on them myself the more money I can save! Still plenty of things I wont be able/confident about doing so the cash saved doing the wee easy jobs should help with that.

In theory...

Did mine last week after not seeing any flow in the reservoir and the fluid being black.

Have a look at the vid and use the old filter as catch tank. Its easy to see when it changes colour and a £2 pump from halfords really helped.

Less than £35 for the whole job and if you jack one side of the car you can easily turn the wheels without the engine running.

Felt very satisfied once done. Thumbs Up

Did you notice a big difference in the steering after you did the work?

No but then I only did it as the fluid was nasty looking and I have a whine that still is not sorted. So it was the best place to start. My steering had always been fine strangely when you see the gunk in the filter.

Fair enough. For the cost it does make sense to start there. If I get it done before the 17th and I still think there's an issue it can still go in.

If warranty is still an option make sure you refill with the correct Land Rover fluid (green I believe). We were surprised to find that my MY07 had the wrong fluid. They still replaced the pump under extended warranty, but only after consulting LR. I think the fact that it was fully serviced and bought from an LR dealer made the difference. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Yup, I have ordered the LR stuff. My FL2 was LR serviced and bought from an LR dealer so you'd hope it would all be fine...

Made a huge difference to my steering which had become very heavy.
