Don't know if there is one on Freelander but my previous Navarra had cruise control prob
due to a faulty " Neutral position sensor "
Sensor was to ensure Cruise was turned off when gearshift in Neutral and was fitted on the side of the gearbox

May be something similar on the Freelander Freelander 2

ad210358 - I use cruise control as a speed limiter for 30/40/50 (especially on M-ways with average speed cameras)
For those with drop-out problems, mine kicks out at low revs (see other posts) and, of course, if you breath on the clutch or brake pedal
I've had no problems Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88

So do I ChrisB but you need to resume every time you slow down or stop, with the actual limiter, you can set it to a predetermined speed and forget it till you turn it off or stop the engine. Useful in town when you cannot hold a constant speed and aids the lapse in concentration and finding you have slipped over the limit.

I have a different cruise control issue - or should I say no cruise control issue.

My 'normal' cruise control works fine, always has but I have found that if I am slowly moving along at around about 15mph and in third gear and I take my foot off the accelerator they car will drop a couple of mph but then carry on at that speed. I've not selected cruise control at all. Breaking or clutch over rides this (thank fully!!!).

To be honest this isn't an issue but I thought I was going potty when it happened. And it seems to be (although I haven't tested it a lot) only applicable when you are doing less that 20mph and in 3rd gear (or maybe that is to do with the revs, not sure about that one)

Cheers Devondave. just searched for anti stall and it looks like it is this. I've only have the car a year and never knew it had this feature. oh well I will master the features of the FL one day.

One thing which would be good if LR added, is a speed limiter, have it along with Cruise Control at work, ideal for in town driving, set it to 30mph and forget it, it can be over ridden by pressing the accelerator a bit harder but very useful.

Second that, I also wish there was a seperate digital read out of the speed you set? No problems with my FL cruise control but that on my Laguna cuts out when you operate the windscreen washers! Rolling with laughter From a time when dinosaurs weren't just confined to zoos!

My cruise control drops out on 'resume' when it's having a slippy clutch day. 138,000 miles & counting

Have you tried to engage hill descent lately or tested the traction control? An ABS sensor as previously suggested sounds like a possible cause.

I had this problem in my D3. It was fixed by replacing the switch.

As above. If yours is a manual transmission then the classic FL2 slipping clutch problem can cause the cruise to disengage. This is because its likely you are cruising at approx 2000 rpm and when the CC decides it needs to give the engine a bit more power it moves it into the peak torque range where upon the clutch then slips for a second or two and the CC sees this as fault and cuts out. You can replicate this with the CC off and try accelerating in 5th or 6th gear from about 2000 rpm and watch the rev counter temporarily move up 2-300 rpm then fall back.
I just live with it.
Nigel

Having the same problem as most of yours tbh

Sometimes wont turn on, or it dose turn on but as soon as you click the minus button it shuts off. I found hitting the button sometimes gets it to work! Getting it to work is starting to be a pain in the arse, guessing to change the switch you need to take the steering wheel apart?

Anyone ever replaced the switch?
