I had a Grand Aero come off the first time out in my FL2 MY13. I got a pair of Colt mirrors. They're a bit like the Grand Aero in design but smaller and lighter and they have a pair of straps around the mirror. Much better. I got them from Dickinsons in Bradford. Halesowen sell them and spares.

I use grand aeros with bee grips HOWEVER I have drilled 3mm holes verically thro the mirror casing in the gap between the cap and bezel. I then use micro tywraps to attach the mirror.

I have read on here before comments about mirrors coming off. I don't want either to loose my mirror or have it fall off and clobber the door skin.

On the advice and info. on this thread I have purchased the Grand Aeros with V pads. They arrived today and I am very pleased with them.
I also purchased the Milenco nose weight gauge. Look's like a nice piece kit. I can scrap the old bath scales now.

Pleased you like the Grand Aeros. If you want any reassurance, they stayed securely in place for over 2,500 miles towing around Scandinavia last year - excellent kit!
Re the nose weight - the great thing about the Freely (& all LRs as it happens) is the high noseweight limit. At 150kg limit on the Freely, you can set up the 'van to the ideal 7 percent noseweight to MTPLM ratio with confidence. (In my case about 100kg) "Normal" cars usually limit at 85kg max!

Sorry to jump in on this thread but I have the grand aeros with vee pads and find they vibrate quite a bit, seems to be the freely mirror cowling isn't strong enough. I tried them on top and bottom of the mirror but it's the same. Would fitting something like chrome covers on the car mirrors help?

Hi Mikeyw, Do you have the wing mirrors with the curved cover? There was always a risk of movement with not all of the clamping surfaced in contact. The new HSE's have a flat faced cover which allows a much more secure clamping arrangement. I'm not sure that all model specs are fitted with this wing mirror as I did see some new cars at the stealers last year with curved mirrors. On my 07 SE, I always took extra time to align Milencos and used both hands to tighten the top screws and never had a problem. I don't think the replacement covers affect the clamping of the extensions. 2007 SE Manual : Gone and missed but 2013 HSE Lux is better!

I accept there can be some minor vibration, as with any mirror on a single 9 inch arm. Physics rules! Having said that, I only use convex mirrors, flats have a limited field of view and may make vibration more noticeable. I cannot see the chrome covers helping Mikey. The clamps act on the edge bezel not the body of the mirror. Cannot fit them to the bottom either, they will foul when the mirror folds. The Grand Aeros seem to be one of the best available. The aerodynamic shape is somewhat self-steadying too.

Thanks guys. Yes my door mirrors are curved but the milencos seem to clamp on quite well. They do foul when the mirrors fold if clamped to the bottom but thought I would try. I see your point about chrome covers not helping, I was just trying to convince the wife I need them Very Happy Ah well will just have to live with the vibration which in all honesty doesn't really cause that much of a problem, it's just that they were pretty much rock solid on my previous car (not land rover)

I bent the arms of mine when I had an 07 Freelander 2 to follow profile of the mirror head, it did seem to help.
