My last car was an Audi A3 1.8 Turbo with over 200 bhp, but I still have it back in Holland, so technically my last car was a BMW 318ti, with AC Schnitzer goodies.

Next car (as well as the LR2)........considering an M5, boxster S, Z4 Coupe or something else

My last car was a Nissan X-Trail 136 Sport, like others had problems with the turbo and never really get used to the instruments in the middle. However it had some nice touches like chilled can holders and it had a slightly larger boot than the Freelander 2. New shape X-Trail looks to be even larger. Did consider the Nissan Pathfinder and had a 48 hour test drive. Although the ride was harsher than the X-Trail I asked local dealer to try and source a nearly new high spec model 15 months ago, I am still awaiting their call. Just as well really as I would not have tried the Freelander which has a far superior ride, much better economy and I now find I have no need for the extra size of the Pathfinder.

I have no regrets changing to the Freelander 2 as I feel it is a much better vehicle and I feel much more 'at home' with it plus after a years ownership I still get a lot of pleasure driving it.

Tax free and cheap cheap fuel make it possible.....also the situation I find myself in now is owning the A3 and LR2 outright (i.e. no finance) and all of the LR2 fuel bills (Even though it only costs them 12 quid to fill up!), insurance etc are paid by the company, so it's just perefct timing of everything.

Looking at the Porsche Cayman S now and think it could be the one for me.....just hope i don't cry when I find out how much servicing costs!!

FL2 replaced a Saab 9-5 & caravan; continue to own a Smart ForTwo

FL1 S 2004, with the under-powered 1.8 petrol engine.

My Freelander replaced a Peugeot 307 CC - the Freelander's insurance is cheaper and the MPG is better by about 5MPG!!!

I disposed of two cars to justify buying my lovely FL2; old Disco 300 TDI (117k miles) and Mini Cooper (37k miles); had fun in both, but no regrets at all!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I had a brand new Saab9-5 Estate, it burnt it's clutch out in 15000 miles after towing once to holland andonce to switzerland. saab no longer reccommends it's cars for towing up more than a 1 in 10 hill if the trailer is over 1000kg so it cost me 1500 quid for a new clutch.Now towed 10,000 miles in FL2 , just got back from Spain and no real problems.

Chrysler Voyager LE, fully equipped. 7 seats. Lots of space.

Had it for 9 years. Most reliable car I have ever had. But no mountain-car though.

Now I am climbing the mountains, singing: Climb every mountain...... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

BMW 318Ti 2000 model - owned from new sold it at 160,000 Km's - very reliable except for some electrical problems during last year, otherwise the back springs broke twice (maybe due to my mountain playground activities) - Hence the reason for a FL2

Biggest moan was the crap local BMW service  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.
