OBD Errors P0120 and P0124

Hello Freel2 friends,
I have a problem with my 07.2007 Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 with about 110.000 mls on the clock.
When driving on motorway with about 110 km/h and low throttle it sometimes happen that the
car jitters for a second. Sometimes i drive 200 mls nothing happens and then on other day
same situation it jitters for a second.
With OBD interface I searched for error log and two are in the list

P0120 - Throttle/Pedal Positioning Sensor
P0124 - Throttle/Pedal Positioning Sensor

I´ve searched in the forum and a few members have problems with their throttle bodies.
Mine sounds quite normal. Without loud movements if you switch off the car.

Do you have an idea what could be defect, or are the error messages a clear indicator that the
throttle body is defect. Does anyone had already an defect pedal positioning sensor?

Would be nice if someone could help me before ordering spare parts.

Christian

It's the throttle pedal, not body.
So it's about the variable resistor on the acceleration pedal.
Check the wiring connections to the pedal connector.

Today I drove with cruise control and accelerate also with cruise control and even here sometimes a jitter
occur.
By the way I also had a look on the throttle pedal and the connector. The wires look ok and I unplug the
connector and plugged it to the pedal again.
I will try if it changes something.

What I wondering is with accelerate with curise control that alos here the jitter occurs??

Because throttle and brake pedals are also part of the cruise control system.
Brake is obvious and it will deactivate it, but for sure you saw that you can accelerate during cruise and then the system will return you to the previous speed without intervention.
During pedal acceleration the cruise control is temporary disabled and as soon as the pedal is returning to default position the system resumes.
An imperfect contact on pedal will (temporary) disable the system as it's seen as a malfunction of the cruise system.

I accelarate with the curise control (without throttle pedal) with the knob on the steering wheel.
And even here the jitter occurs. I think it means independent from throttle pedal. Or?

Still dependent even you accelerate with the buttons.
If you press the pedal, or the pedal is giving you false readings, the cc system temporary deactivates.
And when the pedal input disappears, the cc resumes and then you feel that small bump.

Remember the "noise" the old volume knobs on old radios give?
Something like that on cc system, from pedal. And of course, that noise isn't good when normal driving also....

Also connector and cable looks ok.
What should be changed first, throttle pedal (about 40 €) and if it´s not betther than
trottle body (about 140€).
Would it be the right direction?

The throttle body isn't the same as on a petrol car. And has different functions.
So, again, I don't think that's a problem with it, if the errors are the one posted initially.

To see what's going on and avoid costly guesses, I would use diagnostic tester to monitor the information that comes from the throttle pedal.
Even a generic diagnostic tester is OK as the throttle pedal information is one of the ones obtainable from the OBD2 functions in FL2 case.

I´ve changed throttle body and trottle pedal and failure still exist. I´ve no idea what could be wrong.
Both failures are still in ECU if I read it with OBD interface. And you can feel sometimes a jitter during
driving.
Also during driving I looked at the channel of trottle pedal, it seems everyting OK. If I show the graph
of trottle in % I can´t see any interrupts etc.
Has anyone an Idea what could be defect.

regards Christian

I would find someone with a data logger first and configure to record different elements to search further for the hicup.

I would be looking at the wiring loom as it sounds like it could be rubbed through somewhere ! Jaguar x-type sport gone

You really need the 7 or 9 digit code from the car. P0124-xx where the xx subset can give more detail ... That additional detail may point to an error or fault that is not necessarily obviously linked to the main 5 digit code.

For example, a 5 digit EGR code suggested EGR valve problems where the actual 7 digit code specifically referred to a throttle body error/fault.
