SD4 or TD4

Hi all I don't post much I'm more of a lurker......I'm in a position to splash out and concidering fl2 but don't know what to go for I have the £20,000 to spend but is the SD4 a better car over the TD4.......I have a couple of xs models in each I'm looking at....

The SD4 seems to be listed with a better mpg saying that in real life what mpg would the sd4 return....

After 73000 miles in a SD4, most has been motorway journey work with 38-40 very easy to achieve, the last few months have been spent on shorter journeys and much in towns, 32mpg is what I am getting now.
SD4 is a cracking drive and catches out many wannabee's acceleration is brisk and will give you a grin, I also use premium diesel as I get better power, smoother delivery and more mpg, difficult to gauge as the extra power tends to make you use it.
Having said all that, a couple of weeks ago, I had a brand new TD4 manual as a loan car and would swear it felt quicker and certainly smoother, possibly one reason the FL2 is going.
Either way you won't regret it, they are great cars. Thumbs Up

I went for a manual on my new 14 plate freely as I'm not a fan of auto on any car tbh! It's down to person choice at the end of the day! I've never driven an SD4 however as Taz has mentioned, I have also heard that manuals are quicker regardless of what the brouchers state! My dealer themselves have said that the TD4 manual mid range will leave an SD4 for dust as the autos hold onto the torque converter...

I had the manual TD4 and now on my second SD4, 150 bhp versus 190 bhp is a no brainer really, the SD4 has the longer power delivery but the auto torque converter will sap that hp a little.
There's not a lot in it but the SD4 gain is worth having.

Sorry Nut, but from personal experience, the auto SD4 leaves the TD4 manual for dead from stand still to well past the legal limit.

It will even kill the TD4 mid range as well.

I have been very impressed with the SD4 auto. It will even out run a re-mapped TD4 manual. (Which I used to have)

Sorry, but the facts are the SD4 is overall a stronger performer. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

My SD4 isn't happy going above 120mph. Not sure if the manual TD4 is any faster than that, but I suspect it's hitting wind resistance problems about then. Whistle Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

TD4 Manual. Max Speed 112mph, 0-60 is 10.9secs, CO2 is 165, combined fuel is 45.5
TD4 Auto. Max Speed 112mph, 0-60 is 10.5secs, CO2 is 185, combined fuel is 40.4
SD4 Auto. Max Speed 118mph, 0-60 is 8.7secs, CO2 is 185, combined fuel is 40.4

Both TD4 and SD4 give 420Nm of torque at 1750rpm.

TD4 manual is cheaper to buy new than a TD4 auto which is cheaper to buy than an SD4 auto.

2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

TD4's are old technology by comparison to new SD4's. Every SD4 I have driven is smoother, quieter and more efficient than any TD4 I have driven. Whereabouts unknown stop going to follow stream until reach civilisation stop message ends
