Mitsubishi PHEV

It's looking like a game changer a 4x4 that has done 90 mpg in a real world test drive and all for the same price as a diesel

Have had a closer look, very interesting, LR will need a rabbit out of the hat to fend off this one, people are going green and as much as some may hate hybrid/electric power, thats the way the market is going and manufacturers will need to be at the front.
What I dont get, however, is that Mitsubishi have designed this car to recover energy and fitted it with energy sapping halogen lamps Banging Head

hate all things electric! I can't stand even mixing the two. proper diesel engines only here! switching to electric isn't going to save the planet any more than what naturally would occur without us. its all a load of media rubbish.

Yes, very strange Taz.
As for the car itself, this seems to be a very well thought out 4x4. There are going to be a lot of people looking at this and finding it ticks so many boxes. Same price as the diesel, good electric only distance, very reasonable acceleration and top speed, fast charge to 80% battery in 30 minutes! And it's a 4 wheel drive.
I would want to know the life span of the batteries etc, but other than that, this will need a second look.

A 2.2 ford/PSA engine "a proper diesel" Laughing

Electric motors on each wheel and you will have an very very good 4x4.
Ive worked on some of the best engines in the world, last 25 years between re-fuels and power is immense, not practical in a car though.
A really good battery is all that is needed, inductive and regenerative charging and things will be much better than diesel.

Wonder what the Subaru's like for towing? I think it's an exciting concept and could well fit my requirements. Most weeks my Monday and Friday travels are no more than 8 or 9 miles each way and they could very well be done electrically. It sits outside the garage at night so recharging would be easy. The car would have to be able to handle 3 week towing trips though, either UK or Europe. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

It's a Mitsubishi rjc, and somewhere I'm sure it mentions the towing weight, I think it was 1500kg. It has a 2Lt petrol engine.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Baltic Blue

I saw the electric Defender 90 when I was up at GDEC last month. I also saw another "Big Evoque" with an electric power plant covered in camouflage that "didn't exist". So I dare say that LR are well into making this into production of some sort in the not too distant....maybe the 2015 Disco family will get one...who knows? Foraging near Gaydon....
