I took my Rangie up a 43 degree incline, that turns into almost 45 degrees as the left front wheel lifts. The traction is amazing!

On the way home I was chatting with my codriver, I told him I'd be on my back with the pressure washer as soon as I got home, also mentioned that if had half a brain I'd get a set of ramps to make life easier .... at which point said codriver offered to lend me his ramps !!!!!!!! duh ....

Anyway, with the advantage of the ramps I got to give the underside a good cleaning. Having seen what I've seen under the car the I really do think LR deserve a right good bollocking .... why on earth is the fuel tank the lowest part of the car. There are two metal bars that sit in front of the fuel tank (one on each side of centre because the tank straddles the transmission) these bars are the lowest point and in effect act like bulldozer blades when your ground clearance is tested. The rest of the underneath is really well laid out but this bit really is an abortion. I am going to offer some strong words of advice to LR about this. The only problem I've got is that some of the tin foil heat shield near the tank has been torn away, no big deal but bloody annoying for a vehicle with such claims to off road ability .....

Following the thorough cleaning I got a huge pile of Yorkshire muck on the driveway, there's so much of it I decided to let it dry and shovel it away rather than wash it down the drains !!!!

Avtur interesting photos Thumbs Up
Until now I was more concerned about the drive shaft being too exposed but it seems that I have no reasons to worry.

Gutted I couldn't make it to the off road day - it looks like you had a fantastic time. I will make every effort to go to the next one. Well done to all for organising and supporting such an event. Thumbs Up

Some great pics guys, I was very impressed with the FL2's, am seriously considering replacing my D3 with an Auto TD4 Smile

I must admit to being a little nervous watching the lake crossings, with the air intake being behind the headlight and not in the wing vent (as on the D3) I wasn't sure it was safe but Iain knows his stuff Bow down

As for the fuel tank issue, is there an under body guard available to fit from Mantec or similar? It looks very exposed and puncturing it must be a real risk?

Thanks for a great day Andy .....

I was the one who didn't cross the lake, I was there when Ryans car ingested water last time, couldn't quite bring myself to do it.

I've been under my car many times with the powerwasher for post off-road clean up, the position of the fuel tank really is crazy, other than that the underside copes very well. If the aftermarket guys want to develop anything for the FL2 first it would be a fuel tank guard, second would be a way to raise the air intake a few cm's at least, there's scope for that while keeping it under bonnet.

I really wanted to 'do' the big hill, did it several times last itme around, but felt the ruts had got just a bit too deep this time ... but a fantastic day never the less ... Many thanks ...
