MY13 Service Indicator

Hi All,

Display showing "service required in 15 days". Freelander is 9 months old with 9k on the clock. Is this right ?

Thanks.

From my experience the reminder appeared in time for the 1st year registration anniversary, as I had completed 9.5k miles.
Checking the tax disc expiry date might be an indicator too?

Out of interest did you get just a "service reqired" message on its own before getting the countdown in days appearing? Mines been showing service required for over a month with no count down. First service booked next week.

Generally two messages will appear. One is the countdown timer which shows days to a due service and if you go beyond the due date it will then show days passed due date. The second message will come up with'Oil Service Due Contact Dealer' this is related to the number of times DPF regenerates over the period since the last service and shows that the quality of the oil in the engine has been degraded by the DPF regeneration cycle.

It is not unknown for the countdown timer to come up with an erroneous figure. Happened to me on my first Freelander back in 2007 and the Dealer advised I could ignore it or have it reset but it made no difference to when the service was due. However, when the second message Oil Service Due comes up then it is important that it is attended to.

My 13(62) XS reminder counted down from "service due in 17 days" then after 14 days, just said "service due"

My MY13 did exactly the same. Showing service required in 17 days, and then within a week, showed Service Required.
When the car was only 10 months and 8000 miles.
Theory is that they reset the indicator when delivered to the dealer, and it was sitting in their stockyard for a couple of months. Fuji White MY13 SD4 Dynamic

Service indicator should be reset as part of the Pre-delivery inspection/preparation.

Anyone know if the MY13 / 14 service indicators can be reset as they can with pre MY13 models, or is it a dealer job. Gone:

I'm getting "service required" flashing up on starting, but no time or distance indicator. Car is an ex-demonstrator registered last June. Anyone else get this, perhaps as a standard check, or is it phone the dealer time?
All thoughts gratefully received!

Oops - I've just answered my own question. Checked the mileage! Because I keep the indicator on "mpg" I never notice the mileage, which is only displayed at startup. B****er.

Update on this: mileage is not a problem - I was reading the wrong table on TOPIX (still don't have a handbook!). Car's at 9 months old and 12000 miles, so no service due yet (12 months or 16000 miles). Just to add to the mystery, the "service required" indicator did NOT flash up today. I think I'll keep an eye on it and leave it until the service date in June. Maybe talk to dealer if it happens again, but they are a long drive away. Weird! Confused

Have to agree about service due messages on MY2013, had mine done recently and some days it would say something on start up, others not. Blink and you'd miss it. Not sure why it doesn't leave a message in the message centre thingy during this period that you can check the days left/overdue. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

There's a "service" section on the set-up menu, but on mine it's greyed out.
I'm going to phone the dealer tomorrow, but my hypothesis so far is:
Car probably delivered to dealer last March and service indicator reset.
Car sits in showroom until 28 June, when they register it as a demonstrator.
I buy it in November with 5000 on the clock (and a nice big discount).
Car therefore thinks it's due a service although only registered in June.
Several posts on US Range Rover forums about this - apparently over there you have to go with the indicated first service date or LR won't do it for free!
I'm thinking of downloading a Service Book from Topix, otherwise I'm never going to be able to keep track of the servicing.
