Fuel priming bulb

Greetings
Land Rover Owner International, September Issue 10 have advised a reader to fit and leave permanently, a priming bulb in the fuel line. Has anyone done this? I have considered doing this but feel it may restrict the fuel supply.
Any thoughts or advice on this.

Hi,

..I use this small trick when changing fuel filter on all those DW and similar engines from LR/Ford/PSA etc :
After filter change or when car ran out of fuel I put a small electric pump to fuel RETURN line - with ignition on it will suck fuel through HP pump and prime it. I believe this can also be done by small hand pump permanently or temporarily mounted on return line.I doubt it will cause any fuel flow restrictions mounted there.

I have such an inline pump on a bobcat skidsteer digger. a rubber bulb thingy


works fine now but it did once cause a major headache, constant fuel starvation issues, similar to having floating debris in the tank, changed filter first ran for a while stopped but re started, repeatedly doing this, so I stripped the tank out and tipped it out, nothing inside Confused

After much testing trail and error,turned out to be one of the one way valves in the priming bulb, stripped it down reassembled, never happened again in 5 years.


so yes fit one if you want, but be aware that it may fail and be prepared to fix. you can get sturdier pumps, like plunger in a metal sleeve. but these will no doubt cost more At work

Thanks for the reply lads. I had a Citroen for ten years, it had an in line bulb and took about five minutes to change the filter. It was also 100% reliable. Land Rover seem to do the upmost to stop you servicing your own vehicle.
