Hi,

Takes all sorts......Leaving the CC Club site today, exit from a cul-de-sac narrow road, met an old Nova coming the other way......no room for two but he refused to reverse less than 20 yards to a passing place, I had no choice but to stand my ground. After a few mins he decided to 'go for it' jumped the narrow grass verge and scraped by the van with fractions to spare. Consoling thought was the sound of the large hawthorn headgerow nicely 'cleaning' the side of his car......whatta prat"! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I know we take the mick out of CG but it must seriously feel good to know that your job enables people to eat. In all my working life I never actually MADE anything and I've always regretted that. Respect, mate - but we'll still take the mick Twisted Evil Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

think you could drive a tractor? guess what all these controls do.

out of shot is clutch (not strictly needed but always handy), brakes left/right steering wheel , and a lever for selecting for/rev/park and a foot switch for diff lock.

also there is a stalk which makes funny orange lights flash on the corners of the tractor, cant think what for Confused

I can vouch for the complexity of theses machines, when I took a course in construction plant operation we had to learn how to use mounted implements and boy was there a lot of buttons.

The JCB 3CX took a bit of practice just to dig in a straight line, crowed bucket out as you bring the dipper arm in and raise the boom arm Rolling Eyes went through all that and passed with flying colours and became a bus driver Laughing 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

orange stick = gears or auto, 4 gears per range black wheel on stick alters cruise control, tractor will change gears to maintain the speed set on that wheel while keeping the engine at optimal torque revs.

orange buttons = gear ranges ABCDE again just stick it in auto

orange slider at bottom hand throttle, sets max revs when in cruise

4 rocker switches at front of armrest, 3 have safety covers over them, these operate the lifting of the plough etc and the activation of hydraulic rams, motors on what ever is attached. these can be programmed to operate at certain speeds and for set amount of seconds, a small press is manual control a further click activates what ever auto set you programmed, (similar to electric window switches)

yellow switch operates 100 rpm power take off shaft for mechanical drive to what ever you are towing, muck spreader, spud harvester etc etc

auto 4x4 de-activates front drive at higher speeds or when turning sharply.

complicated button pressing duties such as when turning round at end of field can be pre programmed, or even easier press the record button, turn in the normal manner and save, tractor will repeat this everytime you want to turn

eg slow down a gear, drop engine revs, lift plough, turn off diff lock, turn off 4x4, , turn plough over hydraulicly a few yards later,
then turn round manually press button again, plough drops, tractor resumes previous revs speed etc and carries on.

some tractors can have the whole turning round thing done by gps , the driver just has to press a button to give it permission each time, I guess to prevent people falling asleep or even getting off the machine altogether.

oh and the screen in pic shows the tractor using 28 gallons of fuel per hour, thankfully this was a display glitch it was only 28 litres per hour, setting the display to imperial then back to metric corrected this At work
