diesel fuel addtitive on next fill up

considering the MOT smoke test mine just recently managed to pass eventually, I was thinking of adding something on the next fill up to give the system a bit of a clean out.

it has done just over 24,000 miles.

anything you guys would recommend ?

Two Stoke Oil! My wife's previous FL2 (MY10) was always a bit smokey on start up first thing in the morning. 2SO cured it!

Speaking as an MOT tester. I'd say a good thrashing on the way to the test station will give the exhaust a good clear out. Nine times out of ten we have to give the car a good few revs before taking it in the workshop otherwise it fills the shop up with smoke/soot. Once cleared, they fly through. I recommend that you check out the post started by Yamahafan on the forum, it will detail the correct two stroke for your car which doesn't have a DPF (diesel particulate filter); mix ratio is 330ml per tank fill. <cars with DPF need a different spec 2SO

Before you try it, zero the trip counter and do a run on a full tank of your usual diesel and usual routing to check the MPG; then do say 3 tankfulls with the two stroke and let us know on the forum if you see any improvement in fuel consumption as well as the reduction in smoke expected, based on the third tankfull.
On this forum there are many of us that are 2SO converts and use it every tankful; there is another set of members who are equally not converts and another set who have never tried it.

I run 2SO and at MOT time my garage couldn't believe how clean the exhaust readings showed!

I use Redex Diesel never had a problem with mot or smoke.

Latvia 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Lago Grey

Last week I passed MOT exactly within limits of 1,5 tolerance limit. My car has no DPF and runs constantly on 2sO additive. Next time, to be on the safe side, I will give the car a good high-rev drive before going to MOT and probaly clean the exhaust pipe with water blaster. Folks say that cleaning the exhaust tube immediately reduces exhaust values. As a last resort measure one can try removing the air filter..

Hi Atrix,

it did pass eventually, but not without a lot of excessive revving ( in my opinion )

I would like to be a bit better prepared the next time !!

Iain, the same was true for me. Only with the 4th attempt the tester reached the allowed limit of 1,5. First revving attempts produced measurments between 5 and 3 Laughing

Hi,

A good run with a heavy right foot will clear out the soot and warm the engine prior to the MOT - the tester will see that you have taken the trouble if the engine is still hot/warm and just might stop them from the need to rev the nuts out of your engine!

ever listened to these guys rev engines?

If I am not mistaken, the smoke test rules require that the engine temperature has to be at least 80 degrees centigrade in order to start the test..

Just spent a month touring Europe - took my caravan to Austria and Germany and finished e holiday staying in a hotel in Belgium.

You are correct, they have to be tested with a warm engine - trouble is the mechanics rev the nuts out of the engine to get the job done sooner.

I always take a car for a good fast run before the mot test.

No need to rev the engines the way they do!

I swear I can almost hear the engines screaming 'please help me'!

Seriously, no need - stand next to a bus stop and look at the crap that belches out when they pull away. The average motorist is an easy target ( cash cow) hence the mot fees etc the amount of nonsense that these buses and trucks belch out must equivalent to dozens of cars combined.
