Turbo whine?

I have Freelander 2 08 reg with 93K miles, recently I have noticed an occasional quiet whining noise which is not road speed or engine speed dependent but seems to occur when you accelerate but then the noise backs off. I am wondering whether it is the turbo that is starting to go. The power seems OK and the car goes well, any suggestions on what I should look out for?

Thanks

Might be the diff bearing on its way out?

Thanks for your comment but it doesn't seem to be road speed dependent.

From what you describe I'd lean towards Mona Geeza saying it could be rear diff bearing.
