key fobs won't unlock / lock the car

Hi,

All of the sudden, none of both key fobs won't unlock the car today after it was parked normally yesterday. At first, I thought that the battery of the key fob must be flat and took the second key fob. But the result was the same. Then, I opened the door manually with the key blade, silenced the alarm by inserting the key fob and pushed the start button. The engine started without any problems. Nevertheless, the key fob unlocking / locking doesn't work. I called the LR-garage and asked, if a fuse could be responsible for the car receiver not getting the signal, they said NO and asked the car to be brought in. But the earliest available date is at the end of the next week Crying or Very sad I would be grateful for any advice in this context..

I have tried disconnecting the battery, but it brought no remedy to the problem. I started to drive and after a while, to my surprise, the key fob became functional again. From that one can conclude that the battery of the key fob was discharged.. I have to test the second key fob yet..

Are both fobs now working? If so the cause may be a strong electrical signal nearby, such as a building alarm. There have been cases in the past of key fobs not working in certain locations for this reason.

I've had experience of keyfobs not working in city centres, I imagine in areas of high EM concentration... ...

Thanks, folks, for useful hints. Presently, I can't test the second key fob since I am visiting my parents, but my suspicion goes in the same direction: possible electro-magnetic interference. The park was on the parking lot near my house and never before there had been any problems as for communication between the key and the car. Such an experience I had with one of my previous cars - Mistubishi Outlander, which I coudn't get locked on the airport parking for obvious reasons. In short, when I get back home, I will see, if the second key works.. Thanks once again!

Greetings from Riga,

It turned out to be some kind of interference in the air, because now both keys work without any problem. A man at the LR-garage cautioned me against possible thieves' scanner working nearby.

We had a similar issue when ours was parked in long term parking at an airport. Unlocked car with key In passenger door and then not experienced problem since. This was 3 months ago, so I wonder if we had a similar issue with radiation from ATC radars or navigation aids? Steve
