First and Last Land Rover !!

Got problems with the Traction Control on my out of warranty Freelander 2.

The quote, even with a contribution from Land Rover as a gesture of goodwill is £1,500 !

It's under 4 years old and has done 18,900 miles !

Last Land Rover for me !!

I'm on my fourth and see no reason why it their won't be a fifth, even had a new gearbox fitted FOC out of warranty. Especially when I hear reports of Korean vehicles with five year warranty and are having new wheels fitted at a year old, suspension parts at regular intervals and they say its ok as it's in warranty Shocked p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Oh come on, any car can fail - it's daft to write off an entire make because of one failure. I can show you a VW of about the same age which recently needed a new engine (costing a lot more than 1,500) after the tip came off one of the glow plugs and fell into the cylinder. Would you write off all VWs on the basis of that one failure?

The stats show the FL2 to be pretty reliable. Like all cars it has its weak points (clutch, rear diff bearings) but overall it's now better than most out there, and the terrain response system is usually pretty reliable.

I know it's irritating (to say the least) when something like this happens, but one needs to keep a sense of perspective.

Think yourself lucky! I've just read on the Disco3 site of one member who, despite having a used vehicle warranty, had to shell out £6,200 of his own money on a new engine for a 2006 model with just 80,000 miles on the clock. The bill for the engine came to £9,200 but his warranty only stumped up £3,000. He also shelled out another £2,000 while it was in there on other jobs. He had to take out a loan for the repairs IN ADDITION to the £15K finance loan he already has on it. I'd have set fire to it! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

There's a lot to be said for going the PCP route and changing cars when they're 3 yrs old. At least they're always under warranty!

Haldex coupling and pump but plenty of minor issues before this .

Before retirement had company cars for 30 years and changed every 2 years with over 70,000 on the clocks and never had the problems I had with 18,900 miles of Freelander 2 motoring. Main dealer trying to pull a package together to change it for a new SD but as my dealer said sales are so good losing one customer is a minor issue.

Anything to do with most of these miles being done with a caravan on the back?

Sounds like the dealer are probably making your feelings even worse by their attitude.

You have been unlucky, I have had mine near on six years without fault.

As already said, all manufacturers have good and bad cars. Personally I think Audi is the worst manufacturer for reliability, my Audi is on 24000 miles and needs loads of work! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Bill i feel for you..If it was me i would be going mental and would not give a toss that everyone else are fine "what about mine".
I just have to say i have had mine since jan 2008 and i have not had a problem apart from new glove box catch...
I wish you well in your quest to get resolution from a manufacture that should know better.
I too would be very very disappointed.
In fact i would be apoplectic.

Censored our first FL was PCP - dealer refused to honour 3 year warranty after first year, "too many miles sir", handed it back early and paid the penalty, after paying for two clutches, the gearbox and diff so noisey that Sabbath on full volume would drown them out at 30MPH.
Apparently the centre coupling had failed taking the gearbox, rear diff, tyres! & propshaft - this despite being dealer serviced 4 times a year. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
