Rear wiper motor clogged

I noticed my rear wiper was running very slow at first on cold mornings then gradually with the miles and time it got a little quicker but not much.
I suspected there may be water in it which had frozen and was gradually thawing out.
Anyway after being banished outside after a row with her indoors I thought I would investigate.

Took it out and took it all to pieces and found it clogged up with a brownish sludge. Looked like a mix of water, dirt, old grease and god knows what else.
Anyway spent a happy ten mins taking the moving parts out and cleaning it all up, regreasing etc and now it works like new!

She's still not speaking to me though Whistle

How did you get at the motor? Mines having issues, works sometimes but other times seems to no work. Could be the same issue. '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

Check out the post on changing the tailgate switch which tells you how to remove the inner trim etc.

Then unbolt the wiper arm from outside (one bolt) and you can remove the motor (think it unbolts, can;t remember!).

You can then take the motor apart with a pozidrive type socket.

Have fun!

Finally sorted. It seems to have worked. Did the tailgate switch at the same time. And got the trim back on again.

No row with wife. I sent her out for the evening Smile '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

Following my tailgate switch repair my rear wiper failed on my 56 plate 114,000 mile HSE. When I removed the tailgate liner the motor was very hot as it had been continuously trying to self park for several days. I then read on this forum that the motor has actually caught on fire, so I consider myself to be lucky. IF YOUR REAR WIPER JAMS AND IT ISN'T PARKED YOU SHOULD DISCONNECT IT IMMEADIATELY. After isolating the motor I obtained a Fiesta Mk6 assembly on e**y for £14 inc p&P and proceeded to strip both down to cannibalise the good parts. In essence only the drive shaft and plastic moulding are different. I have posted pictures showing how the repair went. Needless to say it is running better than new now!

Thanks for the heads up on this. SWMBO told me rear wiper was not fully returned to rest position. Quick search on this forum helped me prevent serious fire damage. I pushed wiper back to rest position and removed the fuse, before sleeping soundly. The next night I stripped, cleaned and greased wiper unit and now working Ok.
