United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black
Speaker replacement (2009 GS)

Hi All,

I'm new to Landrover Ownership and picked up a 2009 GS in Santorini Black this week (will post some photos after a clean on the weekend as I've got it dirty already!) Anyway enjoying the car a lot and it's driving great but I do have an issue with the drivers side rear speaker (crackling and distorted). As I purchased from a car supermarket, their standard cheapo warranty does not cover this defect so it's down to me to fix.
I've already discovered that the speaker size is 6.5" and have found a workshop manual detailing how to remove rear door panel, but does anybody have experience of replacing the speakers in their Freelander who can warn me of any potential pit-falls? Also does anybody know what power output does the standard CD-400 head unit have so i know what sort of power speakers to look at also if anyone has any recommendations for replacements?
I'm not looking to spend loads replacing the whole system as I think the standard kit sounds reasonable just being driven mad by this one crackling speaker.

Thanks in advance guys.

JC

Australia 2012 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Orkney Grey

Hi JC
The standard speakers are best described as nasty & harsh sounding even when new, mine had "Made In PRC" stamped all over them. The speaker change made a big difference to the standard head unit.

I replaced my speakers with Alpine SPR-60C which are 6 1/2" split speakers, the only issue I had was I had to use a dremel tool to make the tweeters fit and I had to make up some spacers out of 8mm MDF because to plastic mount for the standard woofer speakers is fairly large, more like 7 1/2'.

So any 6 1/2 will fit and anything over 20 watt will do as long as they are 4 ohms.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice Nairbr,

Heading to car audio shop today so will see if they have any offers on any particulate speaker sets.
