Restoring, With FL2 Help, The Jersey Shore!

I'm sure many of our international members are aware of the hurricane which struck the east coast of the United States in October. Indeed, in the aftermath, I posted photos of the LR2 (FL2) trudging through mud and flood water in service as my vehicle as a news reporter.

This weekend, it was time to give back!

A project was started in my region to recycle our Christmas trees in dune trenches at local beaches that had been decimated by the storm. The trees will naturally collect sand and restore the dunes that were ruined by the hurricane. At the same time, the tree event (which included about 10,000 trees, including my own family's) turned into a beach cleanup event where volunteers including my father and I collected debris from one of the most beautiful and natural beaches in the United States,

My LR2 was an official transport vehicle, one of few allowed on the treacherous sand, to bring both people as well as debris back and forth from state muster zones.

Here are the results of our day:

I got stuck the FIRST time I took it on sand, and feared driving on sand again. Then, I learned that simply airing down one's tires will prevent such bad luck again. Since then, I'm a sand-driving die-hard and absolutely love taking the LR2 on the sand. And for what it's worth, we have extremely fine, soft beach sand here, but despite this the LR2 has never gotten stuck when aired down to 15psi (not sure what, exactly, this translates to in bar measurement).

The LR2 is an absolute beast on the beach, and is very nimble and capable, even through turns and up steep dunes which can cause other vehicles to bog. A Toyota 4Runner (known elsewhere as Hilux Surf) briefly spun its wheels at the deep-sand entrance to the beach yesterday, but the LR2 breezed right by. CAR HISTORY

15psi is, near as dammit one bar (it's 14.7 really but who's counting?). Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
