I picked up a set of nearly new LR dealer supplied Shadow 19's with 5000km on the tires, 235 Conti's that came with the wheels.

I wasn't too far down the road after having them fitted when I noticed my brakes squealing/squeaking when coming to a stop.

Anyone got any ideas why that might be? I noticed the Shadow's+tires are definitely heavier than the 16+215 tires they replaced.

Or could it be brake dust that got dislodged.....it was only a 5 min drive home so didn't do much mileage.

I seem to recall (but may be wrong) that vehicles fitted with 16 inch wheels as standard have different sized brakes than vehicles fitted with larger wheels. I know that 16 inch has been discontinued for MY13 as LR couldn't get the Electronic Park Brake to work on 16 inch wheels.

It may be something simple like you need to adjust the brakes to take account of the larger wheels.

Because they were LR wheels/tyres combination the diameter has not altered by much at all, so size wise they are OK.
But I do wonder if the squeaking/squealing could be down to a different offset, I would hope because of going from 6 1/2 J to 8 J the offset would be smaller to stop the inner of the tyre rubbing the compressed suspension when braking.

If the wheels are completely compatible then there is no other reason, just coincidence and maybe as simple as brake dust

re-torque the wheels to 130 Nm and ensure the contact area is clean on both the wheel and the hub/disc.Wheel size has no effect on behavior of brakes - but uneven torque and dirty contact area can cause slight deformation of the disc and causing squeal

Wheels weren't clean, they had brake dust on the inside and I assume even dirty on disc etc. The noise went away within 20miles as I was using the brakes but I still need to give the new Shadow's a thorough clean and wax and will look at the discs too.
