Dead Key Fob - recharging

Has anyone tried those charging pads that you place your phone on, or mp3 player etc.
It uses inductive charging, abit like those electric toothbrush chargers. I'm thinking it might be worth a punt as only a tenner. Anyone used one ? Link below....

Yeah I saw that yesterday and tried it overnight...no joy. So have altered how it sits on the toothbrush ?? Clutching at straws but not prepared to fork out at dealers. Might end up hacking in to fob and replacing battery as others have suggested. I can see how the principal of an inductive charger works but in reality its never that straight forward Confused

Sorry if I have missed the point here, but if you are simply trying to re-charge a fob why not just put it in the dock on the car? John

my guess is that it needs to be in a car and the engine running,

the OP might be better looking in to the replacement battery threads, buy battery, cut fob open and replace for a few ££ instead of a few hundred Thumbs Up

Its because the fob in question is the spare which is completely dead of charge so docking station on the vehicle will not accept - keeps spitting it out. Hence, cant start the engine to charge it. New battery and hammer needed !

Hey npinks after seeing your post re: ebay replacement cases I studied my case and racked me little brain as to how I could open it. No real places to prise with a screwdriver so risk damaging the outer if I just stick one in anywhere. So I thought, thought again and then, after removing the actual key, stuck a pair of closed, narrow scissors down the void and opened them up with a bit of the old brute force. It popped open and naturally all the components went everywhere. But Censored me it came apart with no damage whatsoever. only thinhg is after looking at your link, I cant seem to find the black "chip" that the guy off ebay is on about. It must be lost in the shagpile Crying or Very sad
However looking at simonts post of 6 march 2011, http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic8404.html
I cant see a blasted chip on his pictures ?????

I am new to the fl2 and have just purchased a 07 one for the wife. Our second unused fob is dead too like yours ,the dock just spits it out .Now i may be wrong and hopefully someone can clarify ,but im led to believe that if the is battery dead it should still start the car once inside using key entry.I have purchased a spare battery and the seller of the car was a nice guy and everything matched up with the car so i have no reason to believe the dead fob is not from our car.It would make my day if the dead battery was the problem for the spitting out of the key.Anyone help?

Read this thread, maybe you can start the car then put in the dead fob in the dock with the engine running to see if it charges it any, it will need a fair drive though, just a thought.

Is that a feasible method ? Can the existing fob be removed from the dock whilst the engine is running ?

The existing fob will be held in physically, but some members have reported it as coming out, I was wondering if this dock could be defeated in some way and the engine started, once running the dead fob could be inserted and hence in a charging state?
Maybe tape over the fob to make it smooth so the dock can't grab it? just a thought

If the battery (shot) you can replace them (as posted in the past) the replacement battery cost about £10.00 of flee bay and will take about 40 minutes to replace. you will need a small soilding iron.
It works because I replaced mind about 12 month back and it still going strong. plus I saved about£160.00 in not buying a new fob.. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
