HDC message

Hi folks, when below freezing outside, when I turn on my ignition in my 2008 ES I get the warning that my HDC is inoperative. As soon as the engine is running it works fine and the legend goes. Is this just something to do with the outside temperature, or should I get it checked (needs a service in Jan anyhow) A bad days fishing is still better than a good day at work

Mine suffered with this on start up along with reduced performance but after 2 years of landrover being able to find a cause I fitted an extra earth cable from the battery as I was sure it was triggered by an earthing problem causing excessive voltage drop.

Since fitting an extra earth cable 18 months ago HDC on start up, reduced engine performance and the wipers doing a single sweep have never ever occurred.

From that i can only deduce that the earthing in the vehicle is not up to the job !
Why on earth ( pardon the pun ) landrover ever expected to put an earth strap from the battery to the body & then another earth strap from another part of the body to the engine block/gearbox would never cause a voltage drop I fail to understand.

So any warnings or wipers triggered on cranking are an indication that there is a problem with an excessive voltage drop,or a failing battery ! not recommended as it can spike electrical components.

Thanks for your advises guys, and sorry I missed the other similar post, I should of done a search! Glad it appears to be a normal glitch, but I'll keep an eye on the battery as Oldgeezer suggests. A bad days fishing is still better than a good day at work
