Don't recognize the reg, but you've bought your daughter a very safe car with winter round the corner Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi Npinks,

To be honest that is the major reason, currently has an Audi A1 at uni but drives between RAC Cirencester & Shipton-Under-Wychwood 3 days a week for work at circa 6am/6.30am, they are minor roads that in the winter that rarely get gritted so have to look to give her the best car I know Bow down that I can sensibly insure.

My wife had a freelander 2 that was superb a couple of years ago in the snow so went for the best we could afford so if when my daughter finishes Uni & perhaps gets a job not in the equine world she can get herself a normal car & we still have decent car.

We insure with NFU and despite her being 19, 20 in Feb they pulled out all the stops to insure it at a sensible price Thumbs Up D4 Commercial

Worth pointing out to her (and anyone getting a 4x4) with all the gadgets and 4wd ice is ice and driving fast will end in tears and a rather large dent or three

I noticed you commented on a winter tyres tread, those woud make it even more safer for her Thumbs Up

Nick,

She sadly learnt the hard way, going to her horse one morning went straight on into a stone wall where she works !!

Fixed the car ourselves apart from getting a bumper sprayed as she had a mini so most parts were just un bolt

She now is if anything overly safe but now has 2 years no claims so fingers crossed she will take it easy.

I have been a land rover owner in many guises all my life so the one thing I've learnt is the most important thing is the 4 bits of rubber that keep you in contact with the road or mud etc, so I'm looking possibly at winter tyres but was trying to get them a bit cheaper !

Regards

Hi MW

No still get to drive round in a 2010 RRS sort of company car.

Agree about value for money but saying that you sell any car to a dealer and you are looking at a £3k loss.

We had a 55 plate mini 1.6 that my daughter had after her mum so in total we had for 4 years & only had a £3k depreciation hit.

Cars are an easy way to throw money down the drain and as a bit of a petrol head I've probably more experience of losing money than most !!

Hope you are falling back in love with your RRS.

My boss has a new X5 4.0, swopped for w/e as he needed a car with a towbar, I was really glad to get the RRS back although both cars cost the same - he ironically was so pleased to get the x5 back - cannot wait for him to get a towbar on the X5 - then we'll see Very Happy D4 Commercial

£3k depreciation in 4 years Bow down

I managed that recently on my FL1 over 3 years but reduced the mini by £3500 already after 3 months and still cant sell it - I may as well keep it but only have one garage and don't want to leave it stood outside all the time when I am using the RRS Big Cry

The RRS is running beautifully though Cool Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
