Roof rail removal

Three questions for our experts:

Do the fitted roof rails on our 2008 FL2 affect the fuel consumption much?

Do they contribute much to wind noise?

Are they easy to remove, and replace if needed?

Cheers.

I removed my roof rails as I rarely used them, but they are not really designed to be removed and then refitted. You have to replace the plastic strips running longitudinally (or at least the front parts) when you take the rails off, and seal up some screw holes to avoid wind noise. Those strips are pretty expensive for what they are...

My mpg might have increased marginally but not noticeably. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE auto Tonga Green/Alpaca

Is it a pretty simple job to remove them and re-fit the new roof trim gutters...

My new car has the roof rails fitted from the factory and I will never use them - plus don't really like the look of them either so its just a case of wanting to take them off...

The new roof trim is £140 but i'm pretty sure I can make this back selling the roof rails on so I don't mind the cost...

Is there anything to watch out when removing? Any tips or tricks would be greatfully received... Any special tools or extra bits needed??

thanks

I'll have a think about that one - could work out best for both of us...

no idea how much the roof bars are worth though - i know the strips are £140 and you get everything you need to fit them so if i sell the bars on (and not a swap) then i need to make that back at the very least...

Must admit I don't know the cost of the rails , but I kinda figured we both have what each other would like so a simple exchange and we are all where we need to be. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar
