Romania 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame
Buying a Freelander 2 from 2007

Hi,

I want to buy a used Freelander 2 from 2007 with manual transmission. But before buying the car I need to know it's real mileage. Can mileage be faked inside all control units ? Can I use the Hawkeye interface to read the real mileage ?

Also, after digging on this forum, I found out that a lot of cars from 2007 may develop serious engine issues due to a bad designed camshaft. Is there a way to identify this issue without opening the engine ? I’m thinking to replace the camshaft as soon is possible as preventive measure ...

Thanks,
Atlas

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Rimini Red

Hi Atlas - Welcome

I am told that there is a mile counter on the transmission that cannot be clocked. How you get to see what is on there apart from taking it into the dealers I am not really sure.

DR There's always a way forward!

2008 Freelander Td4 GS - Stornoway Grey - Now Gone - Sob
2011 Freelander Td4 GS 150 - Rimini Red - in its place - Better x far x 4!!

you cannot verify the mileage using Hawkeye - just been through every menu to check. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Thanks everybody.

It seems to me that Hawkeye interface is more like a toy, the real stuff cost much more ...

Anyway, my first choice was the Faultmate interface, but right now they have some issues with Freelander 2. Probably the best option now is to take the car to a Land Rover service and to ask for a complete diagnose, and in the future to buy a Faultmate kit when it gets fixed.

Depends

ABS fault because you gave the wheel sensor a good knock off road - diagnosed, fixed and cleared without going to garage.
Horns failed due to filling with mud - diagnosed in 30mins, no chasing wiring, because the actual switch signals can be monitored.
Crash warnings reset in multiple modules after repair.
Overheating - actual temperature monitored allowing journey to continue, without damage.
Clearing faults generated by a flat battery.
Intermittant poor bulb connection, diagnosed, found and fixed in a few minutes.

Shame it didn't diagnose which fuel sender was faulty, it's a multimeter job for the dealer as well Sad

yes it's a toy, it's paid for itself in my eyes.
Don't you want to know whats going on under the bonnet? - impossible without this or a similar piece of kit. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
