Electronic components

I've managed to take some pictures of some damaged ECUs of a FL2 that took a bath in the ocean's salt water.
Many thanks to Vali, the guy who supplied the ECUs for the photo session.

Doesn't appear to be much damage there.

A bit of IPA and a brush it will be as good as new Thumbs Up ______________________

So what's the story behind it Alex? Was it a mistake made or something we should be aware of if wading even in freshwater?

The engine ECU wasn't on salt water, but after a while it kept shutdown unexpectedly.
Totally or only on some injectors.

The EGR cooler has a small perforation inside and therefore the cooling fluid enters the intake airstream.

It was a mistake.
He took a stroll on the beach (more on the water along the shore line) and at some point the car remained bogged down on the bottom sand.
After a while, the water found his way inside the sea side door and in that moment the door ECU took the decision to open the window.
The sea waves then ended up inside the car and we know that the airbag ECU and CJB are at the feet level where the water kept growing.
Salt water and electronics....

But either way, take care when wading in waters well above door sills...

Some more information about the Central Junction Box after a quick study:

It uses a Renesas M30882 microcontroller (512KB version) with a M32C/80 Series CPU core, clocked at only 8 MHz, even it can handle 32 MHz.
A pretty versatile microcontroller with over 120 I/O pins, 5 serials, 3 channels CAN 2.0B, 34 channels 10 bit A/D, two 8 bit D/A, 40 interrupts, two multichannel timers, DMA, etc.

Working configuration is stored on a 4KB serial EEPROM, a Microchip 25L320E.

Communication with external world is made with the help of Philips TJA1020 LIN transceivers and Philips TJA1040 CAN transceivers.

Now, the driving ICs and the surprises:
Besides the Infineon BTS443 MOSFET power switch (that we know from the schematics) there are also:
Infineon BTS142 - single channel Smart Low Side Power Switch
Infineon BTS6133 - single channel Smart Low Side Power Switch
Infineon BTS3410 - dual channel Smart Low Side Power Switch
Infineon BTS5210 - dual channel Smart High-Side Power Switch
Infineon BTS5234 - dual channel Smart High-Side Power Switch
ST VND920 - double channel high side solid state relay.

All in all, this Central Junction Box is a pretty complex piece of hardware (a small embedded computer) that centralize, process, handle and drive all the information and stuff around the car.

I should think the whole cars had it hasnt it? after being filled up with sea water in all the box sections, youd never be sure of getting the salt remnants out?

All sealed components are tested in a solution of salt water together with a wetting agent. Not unsealed ones though.
They need time afterwards for the salt do it's nasty corrosive work, depends how long these pics were taken after the parts were exposed to salt water.

You're the second person that is saying they look good...
Leave aside the Engine ECU. That one wasn't damaged.
Look at the others.

For example, you name the below module good looking?

And besides the testing in salt water you said, you forgot an important thing:
The salt water submerged ones were powered up when they were submerged.
So combine the salt water with a pretty important electrical current and do the math...
