Not much help unfortunately, but mine went wrong recently during a map DVD update - LR dealers confirmed that the box under the seat is not capable of repair and is swap out/replace if it goes wrong. That being so I guess the only way to get one without spending 2k (luckily mine was done on warranty) is from a write-off donor car. Can't see where else you could find a working one. Mine: Freelander 2 HSE, 08. Santorini Black/Alpaca Leather, privacy glass, side steps. |

They won't even cover it under the extended warranty, which is really annoying it stopped working 1month after the LR 3 year warranty |

That's surprising, normally on things like that LR will cover it, worse case contribute towards it if you have kept up the service with a dealer. |

I have placed a call in to LR customer services and he said they may make a contribution towards it, waiting for a call back... |

I'm very ignorant of the technicalities involved and apologise for being a bit of topic, but just what is the advantage of the DVD driven navigation systems over the Garmin/Tomtom etc. solid state types? It certainly doesn't appear to be one of cost and yet most manufacturers seem to prefer them as OE fitments. |

Probably got something to do with being able to charge you a couple of hundred quid for an updated disk, Merc ones are £300. That's pretty bad that a update corrupted the unit. |

Another point I would like to add, I would really not recommend using a copied disk these stand a very good chance of corrupting your unit. |

You could always try the 'fit for purpose' under Consumer Rights legislation - requires items to last a resonable length of time. I would recon a minimum of 5 years for electrical equipment would be resonable. If they say that being in a 4x4 involves additional wear through bumps etc. then I would say it wasn't 'fit for purpose' as the vehicle is clearly sold as a 4x4 and so the equipment fitted should be up to it.

There lies your answer! You'll get a better satnav for a fraction of the price. I don't even bother with my built in satnav and my biggest disappointment is that the satnav screen doesn't work well as a mounting point for the TomTom sucker pad! |

Got same issue with my HSE. Look at Car Vision, they have a OEM fit replacment. They replace the whole unit and the maps come on an SD card. They fit a DVD player in glove box to play DVDs on and it has a digital free view TV and reversing camera. They also replace the screen and fit buttons where the little rubber pad is located in front of the original screen. It's designed for the FL2 and they also sell to Landrover dealers as an aftermarket fit. £887 fitted mines being done tomorrow. |

Well had the new unit fitted today. Took them 9hrs and a pig to do. However it works and has been upgraded to include an iPod connection which charges my iPhone 4s and I can operate the iPod functions and play my music from it through the car speakers. Well impressed for the money. |
