VPLAE001 Ipod/Aux connector kit - any advice?

Hi Folks

Firstly a hello - got my '97 FL2 at the weekend, and loving it so far!

In anticipation of the arrival I took a punt on fleabay and picked up a used iPod wiring kit - VPLAE001. I fitted it yesterday, with no apparent problems. However, I can't hear anything through it! The ipod is charging, but no sound. Has anyone got one of these and can advise? I've also tried the USB as source and still nothing.

Thanks in advance

Jools

Hi again

As you were - it seems to be working now. No idea why - maybe it needed the ignition to be on/off a couple of times?

Cheers
Julian

I feel like I'm talking to myself here... Laughing

It now seems like I need to 'reset' the system almost every time I want to use it. Any ideas folks? I see other people referring to a VPLAE002 system - what's the difference?

Cheers
Jools

You're not on your own and I'm sure someone will be along soon with some sort of semi-sensible response.

Personally I haven't a scobby what you're talking about but just remember it's a COMPUTER so kick it, switch it on and off a lot, swear at it, blame SWMBO ( if you've got one) and all will be well.

Have you tried turning the volume up on the stereo? sorry if it's really obvious Confused

The only reason for my comment is that that I think all stereo modes have there own volume control setting.

There may even be a menu entry that need changing on the stereo.

Although I haven't got one - as I haven't an iPod or iPhone yet (still on android) - so am just guessing Whistle

Thanks for the replies guys.

I wondered about the volume as well, but it then suddenly started working. There is a tiny hole on the input box with "reset" written beside it - if I poke this with a paper clip all is well until I switch it off for a while. Curious.

Sounds like a powering issue! is there a seperate connection for power?

If so how have you connected it? 2002 Honda VFR800

Hi Jools, I have fitted one of these from eBay. Mine has been working fine albeit occasionally ignoring steering wheel controls.
I think the only difference between VPLAE001 and 002 is the inclusion of an iPhone compatible lead - the black box is the same, you just need to buy a new lead with an 001. (I might be wrong on that!)
It sounds to me like a problem inside the box. The VLPAE001 kits are quite old now and discontinued. I would attempt to get a refund, although I appreciate that this can be difficult on eBay.
As you said, this is a simple to fit device, there really isn't anything to mess up. If it's working intermittently it must be wired correctly or it wouldn't work at all. Knackered box I reckon - sorry Sad
