Help! Engine won't start, Reduced Engine Performance...

Running just about on time to get to work early this morning! Jumped in the car with my coffee and put the key in the ignition, pressed the started as per normal and got a half hearted engine crank followed by a Reduced Engine Performance (yeah, no sh!t) message. Took the fob out of the ignition, re-entered it and tried again and same thing, but now with a HDC Failure message!!! Subsequent attempts seem to allow the car to give less and less of an engine crank!

Just a quick question, some searching alluded to this possibly being battery related. I am thinking the warning messages are red-herrings and I simply have a flat battery although this is a very sudden onset, never noticed any cranking weakness and the car gets locked every night so no chance of residual drain from the ECUs etc ticking over.

Should I just buy a new battery or is it time to get a mechanic out?

Cheers,
Whytey 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Excellent, thanks.

I called out the RACQ and they said the battery voltage was a little low at 11.5v. He jump started the car (apparently it is safe using the equipment he had). The engine ran rough for 20 to 30 seconds then smoothed out, I assume the engine management systems were reset, causing this. Finally he tested current draw on the battery, which seemed fine at first but after a couple of minutes it seemed to be pulling 60 amps, which he said indicated a battery on its way out.

He quoted $215 for a replacement but i declined so I can determine what a good price is.

Car is running fine now, no more messages and started OK after filling with fuel. Will replace the battery this weekend though.

If you replace the battery make sure you check the coding on the old battery to make sure you rep;lace it with a GM ( Glass matt ) type if thats what was fitted at the factory

Hi Whytey.

I recently bought a battery for my i6.
I got a Century DIN75LMF from Battery World for $209, but it may be cheaper in other parts of Oz Rolling Eyes

http://www.centurybatteries.com.au/search/...eries/ID-7

This also has a higher CCA output than the original LR battery.

It's been okay to date. I would have preferred, or at least been able to look into, something like a Bosch but I needed one in a hurry.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I read a previous thread about battery types and checked but my current LR genuine battery doesnt indicate the type. Will call up for quotes on different types during today though. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.
