Tailgate frozen shut

FL2 tailgate is frozen shut and the lock wont operate. The rubber cover over the release mechanism microswitch feels hard and lumpy and I suspect it is full of frozen water. Im going to try and thaw it out.
How easy is it to access the locking mechanism and switch ? I assume you get at it from inside the the tailgate after removing trim.
I dont have a FL2 workshop manual (never needed as it not gone wrong in 5 years) so any advice would be appreciated.
I need the car tomorrow so I will have a go at it tonight when it thawed (hopefully) in the garage once Ive made enough space there. Its never been in the garage and it'll be a tight fit.

Thanks for the info. It all came apart easily. The inside of the handle/switch/reg lights module was coated in mud, the switch was full of water and the tilting plate was corroded. All cleaned up and reassembled in no time. The sealing strip along the top edge of the module has failed. Ive removed it and sealed all along the edge with a high quality sealant.

Have had the same problem here for past week but it opens fine with the key fob.
