Israel 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

I am sorry to have a rant. But why not just say he has cancer, it really p!sses me off the way people dance around and use the C word instead of just saying cancer!!! A friend of mind has cancer and people no about it at work and no one will speak to her now cos they are to scared of mentioning the C word. Maybe speaking about it would actually help

Oooopppss! I've just bought a laptop....

My desktop decided to retire last week so was looking at either a laptop or IPad, laptop won as I cannot stick my memory stick in, plug my mouse in or my dvd;s, plus I find using the touchpad keyboard a pain in the arse (although you can buy a seperate keyboard I know). Scoured the tinternet and came across an HP 17.3 inch LED HD with blueray (bonus!!) and beats sound system with subwoofer, all for the same price as a midrange IPad (laptop was reduced by £400!).

Still coming to terms with its technology - much faster and smoother than my desktop, even comes with a finger print reader??? (is that so that I can access the porn I wonder???)

I already have an I-Phone so didnt see much point in getting the IPad to do what I can already do on a slightly bigger screen.

I know what you mean, but people are still taken aback when told and really are not sure how to handle a situation like this, so take the best/easiest option, and don't mention it.

also the fear factor can have this effect.

It's quite easy to say to someone "How's your ingrowing toenail doing" but with someone who has this unfortunate disease, "How's your cancer doing" does not have the same ring to it.
We are all afraid of cancer as most end with either a shortened life or death and its a subject we do not want to broach. When someone close develops this it is hard to apply normal conversation knowing it is at the forefront of their mind, we are made this way and I agree it would be better to go on as normal but we find it very hard to handle this disease.

I have had two close relations die of cancer and when visiting them in hospital its not a popular conversational topic, especially when the talk turns to sorting out loose ends. There is good results now in recovering from different cancers but the word still remains in peoples minds as a 'death sentence' and hard to come to terms with.
Big 'C', cancer, it means the same, we feel anger, frustration and all mixed emotions simply because we are helpless and have no control, we feel its much easier to ignore it in the hope it will go away.

Sorry I've taken your topic off topic in Off Topic, back to iPads Thumbs Up

a friend i know, got testicular cancer quite a few years ago, was up beat, as much as you could be, got his house paid off, got a huge lump sum too. had to have kemo theropy (sp?) and lost all his hair.

He was laughing and joking about having one ball and still be able to perform etc etc

One day he came to meet us at the pub, you knew something was wrong, and he was quite, not his upbeat self, which was his way of coping, it went on to say how he had been for his 1st year check up and everything was fine with himself, obviously we asked well what was the matter, to make him so down or distant.

Turned out the lad who was at the same clinic, at the same time as him was there for his 1st year check up, things hadn't gone anywhere near aswell for him, he was less than half the weight he was, and in my friends words he was "F Censored ed."

From that day on he was, very quiet about what had gone on as if it had brought it all back home to how lucky he was and how.

Using the Big C or whatever terminology is how people cope, some go depressed, some stay strong, some just get on with it

There is no reason to get annoyed to how some refer to something so serious, main thing is get on with living Thumbs Up

Let me make it clear, my post and the others are not a reply to Mcp, and he would know that.

FEAR & PREJUDICE

Folks deal with illness in their own way and each way is correct. Some prefer an immediate open dialogue others not, some take a very long time to "out" their illness - many prefer the here and now. There is no right or wrong whichever strategy is chosen.

Cancer and Aids - these two generate the most fear and prejudice but they are not the only "big bogey" bad lads on the block. There are many patients under very short and also long term debilitating palliative care from diseases and virus that would bring the most stoic amongst us to our knees.

What is important is to respect the individuals wishes and to acknowledge in what way, when and how they wish to discuss and deal with what's ailing them. Forbearance and courtesy are qualities the patient will admire in you and respond to.

I think that I am qualified to talk about both the subjects that are on this thread. I am typing the note on my IPad. Only had it for a month and it is the 32GB non WiFi model. there are pluses and minuses and the main thing is that for serious project or spreadsheet work it isn't as good as a PC. it for surfing, light business work and for accessing all the various sites through the app. system it is brilliant. After a while you get used to the keyboard and as someone else has said you can always buy a Bluetooth keyboard and if you have the Apple model it is a very slick piece of kit.
On the other subject it depends on which day it is that you talk to me, sometimes I am up and very positive but others it can be very difficult to be reasonable when you have this hideous, destructive, invasive Censored eating away at you and you had absolutely no idea that it was all going pear shaped until you went to the doctors with a pain in your belly. Guess which day today is? Ralph

It is not easy to ask someone how C is going, when the reply could be, "not good it's spread" what a conversation ender, that's why people don't like to mention it, I know, I've been there, my eldest was diagnosed with Non Hodkinsons Lymphona, just over three years ago, it seems that this variety is normally found in middle aged men, over weight and unfit, he was twenty one, plays football three times a week with two hour training sessions twice a week and is of normal weight for his height. Even people you know would not want to mention it to you in case the answer was not favourable, he has come through this but he is not cured, remmission and regular check ups.

I understand where Mcp is coming from Thumbs Up
