Rovacom Diagnostic kit

I have used Rovacm stuff for years but the system I had for the Defender TD5 is now out of date and useless for the Freelander 2.

I do not like having to pay a dealer to do fault code checking, fob programming, software updates etc. so was looking at the Rovacom MSV 2 with all the FL stuff on it. Anyone used this or have any opinions? John

Buy an FCR. I did.
I too was interested in MSV2, but in the end the features of reading/erasing error codes are more interesting/used during car's life.
The posibility/desire of modifying something in car's CCF is temporary. Once you've seen what it's all about you'll leave it alone.
In the end you'll use it only as an fault code reader/eraser so it doesn't justify the difference in price.
Not to mention that there aren't too much options to mess with on FL2 implemented in MSV2...
Just my 2 cents...

Thanks Alex...that all makes sense. The FCR is cheaper than Hawkeye as well. John

Hello Alex, where can I buy an MSV2 or an FCR? What is the cost? LAS in acnient Greek language means rock, earth, land (the first word of our car' name)

PAE in Greek means goes or rovering (the second word of our cars' name)

LASPAE, try here www.blackbox-solutions.com.

Alex, I have discovered that there is a market for my Rovacom Lite gear so if I can realise a decent sum for it I may go for the MSV 2 Nano, especially as Black Box Solutions do all the Land Rover software updates. John

Well if selling the Rovacom can put up the difference to MSV2 from an FCR, I would do it also... Thumbs Up
Otherwise no...
In the end it matters what you want and feel. Instead of thinking "what if...", go for it.

Now sold the Rovacom Lite for the difference between the FCR and MSV 2 Nano so looks like a result and a happy bunny! Very Happy John

United Kingdom

I have used and still use a generic FCR for diagnostics on a range of cars (A3, Octavia, micra, Cleo currently in household).
But the Hawkeye has just proved to be very useful.
After my recent shunt and a long period in the garage there were quite a few faults logged. Some such as blown bulbs were down to shunting the car around with the rear lights missing, others such as engine management ABS and BCM faults were due to the battery voltage falling low. But the most interesting was the collision detection had been activated - but no airbags had been deployed.
All of the above were easily cleared

Worth checking though if you are buying a second hand FL2, plug in and see if the collision detection has been activated, must be a fairly heavy shunt to activate it as previously Clementine had been suffered some heavy landings on pay and play sites without activation. How many body shops will even know it's there let alone have the ability to clear it? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Will read some errors, most of them powertrain and emission related, but not all errors.
For example you can't read ABS, HVAC or Haldex errors, to quote a few...

Hinj, don't forget that if you buy the FCR, once it has been plugged into the Freelander it will only work on that vehicle as it attaches itself to the Vin number. John

So if you buy a new FL2 after say 3 years you buy a new FCR or as Superspark says, purchase unlock code.
Don't think it is worth the expense.

A new unlock code is about GBP25.
So if you buy another Land Rover (any) you'll pay only the above stated figure.
For example I've bought an FCR prelicensed for a Defender. And now is locked on my FL2.
Mine was as low as GPB125, during a stock liquidation. Or someone may sell his...
