Locks have a mind of their own

Can anyone help with my door locking?

Basically, the doors don't always lock. The lights flash and mirrors fold in. But when you then try the driver's door it opens and the alarm sounds. Only happens in cold weather.

12 months ago my dealer, Copley in Halifax couldn't fix. They re-programmed the locking and re-lubed, to no avail.

Also,,, sometimes if it's cold the tailgate opens itself! you have to get out to close -Most inconvenient in driving rain Mad
You can hear the constant clicking several times as though someone is leaning on the open button!!

Most annoying little electrical glitches which sadly the dealer doesn't understand.

Yours hopefully,

Sounds like a faulty boot switch, the handles ain't fully waterproof and allow water ingress which shorts the circuit with corrosion

SimonT - Thanks for that! Will have a fiddle and see if I can fix.

NPinks - would that explain it only happening in cold weather do you think?

Cheers both

I wonder Shocked

Will the doors lock if the boot is open? I will have to try that.....

That may explain the symptoms you describe and perhaps why they didn't find a fault..... 2002 Honda VFR800

Thanks but pretty sure it's not that. The boot thing happens occasionally, the drivers door is almost every time.
Plus the car gives the impression it's locked - lights flash and everything. So have to check door handle before walking away.

been having the exact same problem on mine with the door not locking. When it doesn't lock, I press the lock button 3 times on the keyfob and that does the trick but it's a pain to do this all the time! Have you had any luck on yours?

Sounds like the latch unit has gone lazy - replacement required.

The good 'ol LR dealer couldn't fix, just re-lubed which didn't work.
Was coming round to the new door latch theory myself. They seem to be about £40.
Does anyone know if they are easy to fit?

Can't imagine it's massively different to the D3 procedure (the part is the same AFAIK):

If it is the boot latch you are contemplating replacing, there is a sticky on here on how to do it, price for he lock is about £18, you should be able to do it in around 45 minutes.
