ditch protection pack?

I am looking forward to receiving my first FL2, should be here in a few days. Have elected for full protection pack but after looking at previous posts looks like I am kissing $2k goodbye. I live near the beach and am thinking I should suck it up, wash my car every once and a while, ditch the paint and leather protection but get it tinted and electronic rust. Even the latter could still be a waste seeing I intend to turn the car over in 5 years (6 yr warrantee).

I would really appreciate a sanity check right now. Cheers

Protection Pack - A total waste of money

The protection packs offered by dealers are a total scam. Choice Magazine did a review a few years back on it and found in most cases you were paying $2000 for a wash and polish! Plus to keep the warranty running you have to take it back to be redone annually anyway!

Dealers also charge about twice the market rate for tint. I had 3M Scotchguard tint done - top of the range for half what the dealer wanted.

Save the money.

yes I would agree, a total waste of money, and also if not done correctly, ie not spending the proper amount of time and product, then will actually make things worse !!

I would agree, waste of time save your money and buy some beer. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.

+1 on what everyone else has said.
I was fresh off the boat 7 years ago and naive when I was told that I "needed" the protection pack.
$1000 it was back then and I needed to also use a "special" shampoo/wax combo.

NEVER again have I done this and I have had a few cars since then without any paint/leather problems. As long as you use a decent wax and cleaners then you'll be fine.

As you are by the beach, then I would recommend you see an independent specialist and see what they may recommend you do. But yeah, the less you buy from the dealer with their HUGE mark-ups the better and as long as you are prepared to do the hard yards and take your car to the tradies yourself then you'll save heaps.

BTW: As a guide, I used Tint-a-Car to tint my windows. $550 but they had an offer of $100 off so $450 all in. 'Octane' was the colour and it looks really good.

You could look at durable waxes, polish the car yourself, apply a coat of wax, buff off and rewash/rinse) then re-apply a 2nd coat later that day, (same day as in your warmer weather it should have fully cured, in the UK 24hrs between)

I would suggest you look at "Collinite 476s" and at £24 for a large tub, and a morning doing it yourself you have a good coat of durable protective wax

another system to look at is Werkstat Acrylic Kits or this Carnauba based one, which ever one suits your needs better
