Annoying Buzzing Rattle from Dashboard - Fixed

Hi All. This is my first post and I want it to be beneficial to fellow LR owners. I recently swapped my old Series Landy for a Freelander 2. I was used to the old Landy rattling, but I did not expect my Freelander to develop an annoying buzzing rattle that seemed to come from the centre speaker or the windscreen demister vent. The buzzing rattle was spurious and loud and was effected by corning, temperature, road condition, etc. I managed to find and fix the buzzing rattle. The investigation involved my pal scrambing all over the dash whilst I drove over bumpy ground and we found the problem. If you push your fingers down between the front of the dash and the windscreen you will find a thin strip of plastic touching the base of the windscreen, it seems to run the width of the windscreen. The fix was to put some small pieces of card between the thin plastic strip and the windscreen. A couple of bits in the middle did the trick. I guess the plastic was vibrating against the glass. I can now enjoy quiest driving until the next rattle develops. Cheers all.

Great bit of diagnostics, and really useful information, I hate rattles. Fortunately our Freelander has not developed any yet.

What model Freelander do you have? What do you think of it apart from the rattle now fixed! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

If you put your mouse curser over the FL2 picture (below the author title) next to his name, you will see the car details and the classy colour it's finished in Thumbs Up

Hi Landynut, now the rattle is fixed I think the FL2 is great. Its my first auto box and I'm getting used to it, especially in busy traffic on the Lincoln bypass. I love the DAB radio and enjoy Planet Rock. It fits in my garage, unlike my old Series Landy, which was 1 inch too tall. It tows my trailer well and the parking sensors are very usefull. You seem to have many Landys, which one is your favourite? FL2 HSE Auto TD4 2010 Stornaway Grey

It is dangerous to admit it in this forum but my overall favorite is the Defender V8. I broke down in the Series 2 close to home this weekend and my wife came to tow me in the Defender, it gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that it it can handle any problem, It pulled the Series 2 in tick over in 3rd no problem!

We love our Freelander too, the SD4 is quite a punchy engine in a very comfortable car.

I am just forming an opinion on the Evoque, every day it impresses me with its performance on road - it is more of a sports SUV than a regular 4 wheel drive. But is is SMALL - lower, shorter and lighter than the Freelander and has a tiny boot. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey
