Excessive engine vibration and noise after hot start (MY11)

On restarting the engine (TD4 manual 700mls) after dropping grandson at home, the engine started but sounded extemely noisy with excessive vibration, which shook the car. Sounded as though it was running on 2 cylinders. It stopped on the button as normal. No warning lights came on. It then restarted normally and so far has not repeated the fault. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hello,

I'm writing on behalf of my friend.

He noticed the similar problem on his 2011 FL2 TD4 with start/stop system.

When releasing the clutch too fast (or too little gas pedal) on traffic ligths and trying to rerun the engine by START button- then it happend. He experienced this problem twice, each time after he chocked up the engine. FL2's mileage is ~2000km.

Next/previous restarts was normally, engine works smoothly all the time.

What is it? I exclude the fuel because it was reproductible in corresponding conditions. Is it such an important to call the service?

No further problems with mine up to now. Dealer cannot really do anything unless it can be reproduced for them as no fault codes are logged.

Smile The same thing has just happened to my 2011my Freelander. Luckily I work at the manufacturing plant, so I asked a Technician there for the answer. Firstly if your low fuel warning light is on a dedicated judder will be introduced at so time.. This is to remind you that your low on fuel, it must have been coincidental that it came in on starting.
This feature would normally activate on steady driving. So not to worry, a Mil warning would show if any problem or fault is present. Personally I will top up before going on empty as it is something I do not want to occur again. My car has done 6,000 miles and has had the low fuel light on about 3 times and this never happened, so lets see how it goes. Regards Tony. Smile

Mine has not done this since May but on the occasions that it did happen the engine was hot and there was over 3/4 of a tank of fuel.
